‘Santa Decanter’ 2023

Date: 30/12/2023
Course: Yarrambat Park, Yarrambat, Victoria

Nurse Min – Winner Santa Decanter 2023

‘Nurse Min Acquires Santa Decanter in Style

Well, the final major event for 2023 was the Santa Decanter, this year run at the traditional home of the nnomads Golf Club being Yarrambat Park. The weather was off and, on all day, making it testing conditions for all, particularly Slugger Fairweather who persisted all day and completed the round (a good indicator of weather tolerability).

Now, it was difficult to tell who won the event during the presentations after the event due to some minor miscalculations by Stavros the Greek which completely ignored Nurse Min’s game winning score and announced that TJ had won, which he had not. Then after some fast retractions, and a shuffling of prizes, Nurse Min was finally recognised as the Santa Decanter Champion 2023 that he was and is.

This was because Nurse Min (97,28,69) easily won the event with a 3-shots under the card performance, and a 4-stroke lead over TJ (93,20,73), with Cinders (112,36,76) a further 3 strokes back in 3rd place.

This meant Nurse Min took the bulk of the Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), while Stavros the Greek was able to maintain a slim lead (0.25 strokes) over TJ in the club championship with only hours left in 2023 (see YTD 2023 championship results).

The committee congratulates the Nurse Min on a memorable win, and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the first major event of 2024, being the Australian Masters Open Kup (AMOK) to be run on Australia Day in January 2024 (See Full Santa Decanter 2023 event report).

‘BIT – Team Ambrose 2023

Date: 28/10/2023
Course: Rosebud Country Club, Flinders, Victoria

Stavros the Greek – Winner Melbourne Cup Cup 2023
on Calaway handicap after play-off

‘Stavros chips to win the Cup Cup

This was the 27th running of the Melbourne Cup Cup in the last 29 years and what an event it was. Yarra Bend was in lovely condition albeit a bit slow, on a day where the sun was shining and the temperature perfect for golf. And of course it was a Callaway event although the scores are also used for the club championship.

As usual the final scores all fitted within a range of 8 strokes, but Stavros the Greek (92,17,75) and Billy Bob Thornton (104,29,75) came out on top with net 75 strokes, with TJ (100,24,76) one stroke behind in 3rd place. Of course, this meant a chip off was required in which Stavros finally prevailed over Billy Bob.

This meant Stavros the Greek took the bulk of the Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder). Stavros also displaced TJ to become the leader in the club championship with only one event remaining in 2023 (see YTD 2023 championship results).

The committee congratulates the Stavros the Greek on a memorable win, and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, being the Santa Decanter run in late December (see Full MCC 2023 event report).

‘BIT – Team Ambrose 2023

Date: 28/10/2023
Course: Rosebud Country Club, Flinders, Victoria

Curtis, Stavros the Greek and the Maroon Breasted Warbler
- Winners on nnomads GC Team Ambrose handicap

‘Winners are Grinners at the Club’

There were two 3-man teams in the BIT Team Ambrose event for 2023, again run at the Rosebud Country Club which was in beautiful condition, albeit a little windy to say the least.

Unlike last year, the outcome of the team’s event was not close at all. In short, Team B containing Curtis (Captain), Stavros the Greek and the Maroon Breasted Warbler (73, 12, 61), easily beat Team A containing The Bloke, Pup and Nurse Min (77,12,65) by four strokes. Of note was the fact that Curtis had won the TSCC and the MBW had won the BIT the previous day making them double winners and ginners.

Obviously, the outcome had no impact on the Bladder or the Club Championship so again nothing to see there.

The committee congratulates Team B on a convincing win, and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, being the Melbourne Cup Cup (MCC) run on Cup Day in early November (see BIT-TSCC 2023 event report).

‘Balnarring Invitational Tournament 2023

Date: 27/10/2023
Course: Flinders Golf Club, Flinders, Victoria

The Maroon Breasted Warbler - Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘Warbler in for a BIT’

Flinders Golf Club was in fantastic condition for this year’s running of the BIT or should I say the MINI-BIT. Despite a limited field, the event was a ripper held in sunny and very pleasant conditions.

And after all the controversy last year, the Maroon Breasted Warbler (100,29,71) won the event easily from Nurse Min (103,29,74) with Curtis (92,16,76) a couple of strokes further behind.

This meant Maroon Breasted Warbler took the bulk of the Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), while TJ remained at the top of the club championship ladder (see YTD 2023 championship results).

The committee congratulates the Maroon Breasted Warbler on a sensational win, and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, being the Melbourne Cup Cup (MCC) run on Cup day in early November (see BIT-TSCC 2023 event report).

‘Tulum Sands Callaway Classic 2023’

Date: 27/10/2023
Course: Flinders Golf Club, Flinders, Victoria

Curtis - Winners on Callaway handicap

‘Curtis takes out the Classic’

As usual, the BIT event was also the Tulum Sands Callaway Classic in which we use the same score cards to calculate Callaway handicaps and a winner based on Calaway handicaps.

In this format, Curtis (92,20,72) easily took out the event by 3 strokes from Nurse Min in equal 2nd place (103,28,75), and The Bloke in equal 2nd place (91,16,75.

Obviously, the outcome had no impact on the Bladder or the Club Championship so nothing to see there.

The committee congratulates Curtis on a brilliant win, and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major being the Melbourne Cup Cup (MCC) run on Cup day in early November (see BIT-TSCC 2023 event report).

‘Triggered Major 2, September 2023

Date: 29/09/2023
Course: Yarra Bend, Fairfield, Victoria

Markus Octavious - Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘Octavious Victorious around the bend’

So, the second Triggered Major for 2023 was full of surprises with Freddie Five Iron pulling out on the 1st tee, the Hanging Judge pulling out on the 17th tee, and Club Championship leader TJ not showing at all up after a hard night! But that didn’t stop the remaining eight players from having a fabulous day in fabulous weather of a somewhat tired and shabby Yarra Bend course.

But this event was a standout because Markus Octavious (101,35,66) won the event easily shooting 4 stroke under the card, and 3 strokes in front of 2nd place getter Stavros the Greek (90,21,69) with Nurse Min a few strokes behind in 3rd place.

This meant Octavious took the bulk of the Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), while TJ remained at the top of the club championship ladder (see YTD 2023 championship results).

The committee congratulates Markus Octavious on a sensational win, and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, being either the Balnarring Invitational Tournament (BIT), or the Swan Island nnomads Cup (SINC), or the Melbourne Cup Cup (MCC) whichever end up being the next event. (See Full TM2 2023 event report).

Tanawha Invitational Tournament, August 2023

Date: 3rd and 4th/08/2023
Course: Peregian GC and Caloundra GC, Sunshine Coast, QLD

Team HB&B - Winners on Ambrose Team handicap

‘HB&B Prevail at TIT 2023’

Well, the first running of the Tanawha Invitational Tournament (the TIT) on the sunshine Coast was very exciting indeed with its new 3-man team Ambrose event format run at two courses over two days.

After the first day there were only 2.2 strokes between Team 1 (Mild’s Marauders) and Team 2 (the HB&Bs) making the event very exciting. On the second day the difference was even less with only 0.2 strokes between the teams.

But it was Team 2 - the HB&Bs (net 136.3 strokes), who eventually won the overall event in convincing fashion by 2.2 strokes over Mild’s Marauders (net 138.5 strokes).

This didn’t impact on Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), or the club championship (see YTD 2023 championship results) as it was a team Ambrose event.

The committee congratulates Team HB&B on a sensational win, and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, the Swan Island nnomads Cup (SINC) in September. (See Full TIT 2023 event report).

‘ANZAC Victorian Open Masters Invitational Tournament, June 2023

Date: 25/04/2023
Course: Yarrambat Park, Yan Yean, Victoria

TJ

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘TJ Sticks it to the Old Dudes’

So, the fifth nnomads Golf Club major event for 2023, was the ‘Victorian Open Master Invitational Tournament, run at Yarrambat Park in somewhat wet conditions (Afterall it is winter). The turnout was abysmal with only four competitors stepping onto the first tee (excluding Stavros the Greek who was the referee and photographer for the day).

The first nine was close with 3 of the 4 contenders within one stroke. And then TJ (89,22,67) broke away from the pack shooting a personal best (first time shot under 90 strokes off the stick) easily beating The Bloke (90,13,77) by 10 strokes with the rest of the field further behind.

This meant TJ again took the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), and as predicted after the last major event, he moved into the lead in the club championship (Current lead of over 4 strokes from The Bloke (see YTD 2023 championship results).

The committee congratulates TJ on his third win for the year, and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, the Swan Island nnomads Cup (SINC) in August. (See Full VOMIT 2023 event report).

‘ANZAC Day Medal (ADM), April 2023

Date: 25/04/2023
Course: Growling Frog, Woodstock, Victoria

TJ

Winner on nnomads GC handicap after play-off

‘TJ Does it in the Trenches’

Well, the fourth nnomads Golf Club major event for 2023, was the ‘ANZAC Day Medal, again run at the Growling Frog in perfect conditions. The turnout was good with another eight competitors stepping up to via for the ANZAC Day Medal and perpetual trophy.

At the end of the Day, it was TJ (101,23,78) who won the event in a play-off, well a chip off closest to the bucket, from Curtis (94,16,78) with The Bloke (94,14,80) a further two strokes behind in 3rd place.

This meant TJ took the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), while Stavros the Greek and The Bloke remain on top of the club championship leader board (see YTD 2023 championship results). It should be noted that TJ has the lowest average score across 3 major events meaning he should easily take the lead in the club championship after the next event he plays in (assuming he maintains his form).

The committee congratulates TJ on another fantastic win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, the return of the Monarch of the Tulum (MOTT), to be run sometime in May. (See Full ADM 2023 event report).

‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup (TM1), April 2023

Date: 7/04/2023
Course: Yarrambat Park, Yarrambat, Victoria

Stavros the Greek

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘The Greek Does It Again’

So, the third nnomads Golf Club major event for 2023, was the ‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup, again run at Yarrambat Park on a pleasantly better weather day than was expected. The turnout was also much better than previous 2023 events with eight competitors stepping onto the 1st tee. It should be noted that Billy Bob Thornton and Slugger both pulled out at the last minute based on predicted inclement weather which did not arrive. Hence, both missed out on and excellent day – Bad luck guys!

What was not expected, was that Stavros the Greek (92,19,73) got up once again winning by 2 strokes from 2nd placegetter TJ (96,21,75), with Markus Octavious (114,35,79) a further four strokes behind in 3rd place.

This meant Stavros the Greek took the major Bladder points once again (see - Year to date Bladder), and moved into 1st place in front of The Bloke on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2023 championship results). However, it is early days in the 2023 club championship, exampled by strong contenders like TJ, The Bloke, Marcus Octavious, Slugger, and Billy Bob Thornton all within striking distance of the top of the ladder.

The committee congratulates Stavros on another fantastic win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, the ANZAC Day Medal, to be run on Anzac Day later in April. (See Full BBNC 2023 event report).

Triggered Major 1 (TM1), March 2023

Date: 13/03/2023
Course: Yarrambat Park, Yarrambat, Victoria

Stavros the Greek

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘Stavros Stays the Course’

Well, the second nnomads Golf Club major event for 2023, was the first ‘Triggered Major’ for 2023 run at Yarrambat Park on Labour Day. The turnout was again atrocious albeit a 50% increase on the last major event (up from 4 to 6 players). Again, there were a wide range of very poor excuses being submitted for not playing although Freddie Five Iron’s was certainly the most creative (damaged himself when using a power saw – See photos in main report). That said, the members that matter were there with an exclusive group of six stepping onto the 1st tee on a glorious day for golf. And again some excellent golf played creating a very competitive competition.

At the end of the day, it was Stavros the Greek (94,19,75) who just got there, winning by 1 stroke from 2nd placegetter The Bloke (90,14,76), with Markus Octavious (112,35,77) a further stroke behind in 3rd place. Of note was the fact there was only 3 strokes between the winner and last place, illustrating how close the results were across the field.

This meant Stavros the Greek took the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), and moved into 2nd place behind The Bloke on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2023 championship results).

The committee congratulates Stavros on a magnificent win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, the Blessed are the Big Nose Cup, to be run on Good Friday in April. (See Full TM1 event report).

Australian Master Open Kup (AMOK), January 2023

Date: 26/01/2023
Course: Yarra Bend, Fairfield, Victoria

TJ

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘TJ Starts the Year in Top Form’

So, the first nnomads Golf Club major event for 2023, was the ‘Australian Masters Open Kup’ run at The Growling Frog on Invasion Day. The turnout was absolutely atrocious with a huge range of very poor excuses being submitted for not contesting this year’s event. That said, the members that matter were there with an exclusive group of four stepping onto the 1st tee on a glorious day for golf. And some excellent golf played on the day creating a very competitive competition.

However, at the end of the day it was TJ (98,23,75) who was a standout, winning by 5 strokes from 2nd placegetter The Bloke (96,16,80), with Stavros the Greek and Freddie Five Iron well off the pace.

This meant TJ took the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), and moved into top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2023 championship results).

The committee congratulates TJ on a sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2023, the first Triggered Major for the year to be run in March. (See full AMOK 2023 event report).
