Standardised Event Report: ‘HB&B Prevail at the TIT Sunshine Coast’
August 3^rd and 4th 2023: So, the first running of the Tanawha Invitational Tournament on the Sunshine Coast (The TIT) was a screaming success, which was interesting for an event that did not have a name until it started. Potential event names considered and then excluded included the Sunshine Coast Amateurs Tournament (SCAT) which had an emblem (see photo of animal scat submitted by MBW), and the No Name Invitational Tournament (NIT) which was nearly a starter until Gorgi came up with the final contender, the TIT. This was a 3-person Team Ambrose event run over two days on two different courses in which the lowest handicappers were in one team and the highest handicappers were in the other. That meant team handicaps were not balanced or close setting up a significant challenge for both teams.
The first Team onto the tee on both days with a team handicap around 7.8 strokes were Mild’s Marauders containing Mild Colonial Boy, Tee, and the Bloke. The second team onto the course with a handicap of around 14 strokes was the HB&Bs containing Stavros the Greek, Gorgi, and Maroon Breasted Warbler. It is fair to say it was sheer quality for all to see across the playing group (see TIT 2023 Player Groups).	TIT Player groups 2023 Photos
Close on course: So, Day 1 was held at Peregian Golf Club with both teams exceeding expectations. And at the end of the first round there was 2.3 strokes difference between the teams in favour of the HB&B Team (81, 14.2, 66.8) over Mild’s Marauders (77, 7.8, 69.2). As you would expect there was quite some heated banter between the teams in the bar after the game. Day 2 was at Caloundra Golf Course with both teams champing at the bit to get onto the course. And it was close all day with a few reported ups and downs and some exaggerations also reported as the teams battled it out for the coveted TIT trophy. But it was the HB&Bs (83, 13.5, 69.5) who just edged out Mild’s Marauders (77, 7.7, 69.3), by 0.2 strokes to win on Day 2. This meant the HB&Bs (net 136.3 strokes), won the overall event convincingly by 2.2 strokes over Mild’s Marauders (net 138.5 strokes) although it must be said that Mild and his team members did not think it was as convincing a win as those in the HB&B team (see detailed results below). Celebrations and presentations: As you would expect, the presentations back at Mild’s place were celebration of the HB&B Team sensational performance with much cheering from the gallery as Mild presented the HB&B Team with the TIT trophy for 2023. It was fair to say a good time was had by all typified by the obligatory meal at a local restaurant that night, followed by a BBQ at Mild’s place the following day. “It was a great event but I am glad to see them all go” Mild was heard muttering to himself as the last car pulled out of the drive (see Photos 2023 presentations). The Club committee congratulates Team HB&B on their brilliant win and indeed all other winners on the day. The committee also reminds members that the next major event in 2023 is the ‘Swan Island nnomads Cup (SINC), later in September. So, book early and see you there.
