Santa Decanter, 2017 Date: 30/12/2017 |
|
The Bloke |
‘Bloke Becomes King again at the Links’ So, the final event of the year was the Santa Decanter which returned
to its traditional home at Kingston Links. The weather was challenging ranging
from windy with showers to relatively pleasant tee shirt weather. Hence,
there was a lot of put it on and take it off again type of behaviour. And of
course, being the final event of the year, everyone was wondering who would
win the club championship for 2017 with the likely contenders being reigning
champion Pup, top of the leader
board The Bloke, and close behind
him The Cardinal. In the end it proved pretty straight forward with The Bloke (86,15.71), taking out the event by 3 strokes from Stavros the Greek (97,23,74), with the
rest of the field quite some strokes behind. This meant The Bloke who was already leading the club championship, cemented
his place on top of the leader board with an average net score of 71.75
strokes, a full 2.25 strokes in Pup
on Net 74 strokes. Hence, The Bloke
will be the 2017 nnomads Golf Club champion
assuming a triggered major event doesn’t change the outcomes before midnight
on the 31st of December (see YTD 2017 championship results).
The result also meant the Bloke is
likely to end up on top of the Bladder for 2017 and nothing is likely to
change that (see YTD 2017 Bladder)
The committee congratulates The
Bloke on a truly exemplary performance and indeed all winners on the day.
The committee reminds members to book early for the first event of 2018 – The
AMOK to be run on 26th January. (See SD 2017 full event report) |

Melbourne Cup Cup, 2017 Date: 7/11/2017 |
|
Nurse Min |
‘Nurse takes it out twice in a decade’ As usual ‘The Brothers’
organised the perfect scenario for the twenty second running of the Melbourne
Cup Cup. And as always, it was a Callaway event, in
which player handicaps were calculated on the day using the Callaway And that didn’t go that well for the four players who came in equal 2nd
including Thombei the Mist, The Cardinal, Billy Bob
Thornton and The Bloke. But it did go well for Nurse Min
who won by 1 stroke (102,28,74), taking out the event for the 2nd
time in a decade (he won in 2012). Hence, the Nurse got a boost on the club championship which is certainly
hotting up as we approach the end of 2017. After the MCC, The Bloke remains on top with an
average net score of 73.5 strokes. Pup sits 0.25 strokes behind him and The
Cardinal sits a further 0.75 of a stroke behind him (see YTD 2017 championship results). The committee congratulates Nurse
Min on his stand out performance and indeed all winners on the day. The
committee reminds members to book early for the upcoming Triggered Major
later in November (See MCC
2017 full event report) |

‘Triggered Major 3, July, 2017 Date: 23/07/2017 |
|
Thombei The Mist |
‘Members Mystified in Healesville’ Would you believe it? So once again the RACV members intentionally or
otherwise, organised eight nnomads Golf Club
members to turn up to the RACV Club in Healesville for a game of golf. Once
again that meant it was another Triggered Major because club rules say
whenever 7 or more nnomads GC members play
together, the occasion automatically becomes a Triggered Major (if it is not
already a major event). And once again it turned out to be a brilliant day with some
appropriately brilliant golf. But this time the result was not as unexpected
because Thombei The Mist (96,23,73), really milked his
home town advantage beating Slugger
(99,24,76) by two strokes, with Club Champion Pup (94,18.76) a further stroke behind. This meant Thombei The Mist took the major Bladder
points (see - year to date Bladder),
while The Bloke retook the lead
from Club Champion Pup in the race
for 2017 club championship (see YTD
2017 championship results). The committee congratulates Thombei on his
expected performance and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds
members to book early for the Melbourne Cup Cup in
November, but to watch out for another Triggered Major that could spring up
at any time (see TM3 full event report). |

‘Triggered Major 2, June, 2017 Date: 25/06/2017 |
|
Nurse Min |
‘Nurse shows members at the club’ This event was the epitome of why the concept of a Triggered Major was
introduced to the nnomads Golf Club event calendar,
whereby whenever 7 or more nnomads GC members play
together, the occasion automatically becomes a Triggered Major, if it is not
already a major event. And that is exactly what happened when Rubber Man invited a few nnomads GC members to join him on course at the RACV Club
in Healesville, his club! And it turned out to be a brilliant day with some brilliant golf which
was all the more pleasurable when it wasn’t expected. Nor was the result
expected whereby Nurse Min (103,31,72)
really showed the members what he could do, taking out the event by four
strokes from Pup (94,18,76) in 2nd
place, with Tombei the Mist (102,23,79) slightly further
behind. This meant Nurse Min took the
major Bladder points (see - year to
date Bladder), while Club Champion Pup
overtook The Bloke in the club
championship (see YTD 2017
championship results). The committee congratulates Nurse
Min on his unexpected performance and indeed all winners on the day. The
committee reminds members to book early for the Melbourne Cup Cup in November and to watch out for another Triggered
Major that could spring up at any time (See full TM2 2017 event report). |

‘Victorian Open Master
Invitational Tournament, June, 2017 Date: 11/06/2017 |
|
The Cardinal |
‘Cardinal and Sphincters Show’ Once again it was back to Yarrambat Park for the annual running of the
Victorian Open Masters Invitational Tournament (VOMIT), which as usual was
both an individual and team event. The individual event was not close at all with The Cardinal (99,24,75) taking it out easily by The teams event was not that close either with The Cardinals Sphincters
(Net 80 strokes) easily beating The
Markus Five Greeks (Net 89.5 strokes) on net team score. This meant The Cardinal took
the major Bladder points (see - year
to date Bladder), while the club championship is really hotting up with The Bloke maintaining single stroke
lead over reigning Club Champion Pup (see YTD 2017 championship results). The committee congratulates The
Cardinal and the rest of the Sphincters on their superior performance and
indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early
for the Melbourne Cup Cup in November and to watch
out for a Triggered Major that could spring up at any7 time (See full VOMIT 2017 event report). |

‘ANZAC Day Medal, April 2017 Date: 25/04/2017 |
|
The Hanging Judge |
‘Judge beats them in the Trenches’ And with the going down of the sun, they will certainly remember the ANZAC
Day Medal 2017 run as usual at the Growling Frog. It had rained solidly all
night, including solid showers early morning, which made the best of them
wonder whether the event would be cancelled. But golf is an all-weather game
and eight of the ten booked players (were a couple of wimps), turned up to
participate in an excellent competition, with a quality field, and far better
than conditions than anyone expected. And at the end of the day there were three players that couldn’t be
separated including The Bloke
(91,16,75), The Hanging Judge
(98,23,75) and Markus Octavious (110,35,75). This of course meant a
play-off was in order or at least a chip-off whereby closest to the traffic
sign in the carpark would determine the winner. And of course, it wasn’t as
simple as that because someone made a mistake with Markus Octavious’s
score card, meaning the chip-off was between The Bloke and The Hanging
Judge. And it was The Hanging Judge
who prevailed meaning he retained the ADM trophy and had to present it to himself
(see photo to left showing The Hanging
Judge shaking hands with himself as he presented the ADM Trophy to
himself during the 2017 presentations). That of course meant The Judge
took out the major Bladder points (see - year to date Bladder), while The Bloke and Pup gained equal 1st place year to date in the club
championship (see YTD 2017
championship results). The committee congratulates The
Hanging Judge on a notable performance and indeed all winners on the day.
The committee reminds members to book early for the Victorian Open Master
Invitational Tournament (VOMIT) – 13th June, so see you there (See
full ADM 2017 event report). |

‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup,
March 2017 Date: 15/04/2017 |
|
The Bloke |
‘The Bloke has a Big Nose’ Well there was a strong feeling of same- same as players stepped up to tee
off in the 2017 ‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ cup. Same because the same eight
quality players turned up to contest the event. Same because the event was
once again run at Ringwood Golf Course. And same because the groupings were
identical to last year. But that is about as far as the sameness went because The Bloke (81,17,64) absolutely
smashed it, with a 6 stroke under the card performance, beating 2nd
place getter The Cardinal
(98,24,74) by ten strokes with Marcus Octavious (110,35,75) a further stroke behind in
third. And that wasn’t all, because The
Bloke won three NTPs, a Longest Drive and was Best off the stick.
Fortunately, The Cardinal also won
an NTP and a longest drive and Octavious got a ball
for 3rd, meaning The Bloke
didn’t quite get all the Bladder points (see - year to date Bladder) but yet
again left current club champion Pup
leading the club championship (see YTD
2017 championship results). The committee congratulates The
Bloke on an exceptional performance and indeed all winners on the day.
The committee reminds members to book early for the ANZAC Day Medal to be run
ANZAC Day – 25th April, so see you there (See BBNC 2017 event report). |

Triggered Major 1 (TM1), March
2017 Date: 13/03/2017 |
|
Billy Bob Thornton |
‘Billy Bob Blasts Bat’ Yes, it was another Yarrambat kind of day with the course in not such
condition after being cored, and the 10th hole shortened to a par
3 because of work on the green. But that didn’t stop a select group of eight nnomads GC members contesting the first Triggered Major
for 2017 in real style. The event was memorable for a number of reasons including the return of
Thombei The Mist after an absence of three
years, Curtis making his first
appearance in a Major for 2017 and Club Champ Pup maintaining his in-the-zone form. But the standout performance came from Billy Bob Thornton (95,28,67) who shot three strokes under the
card (adjusted to par of 70 due to course alterations) to easily beat even
with the card Pup (89.19,70) and Thombei The Mist (95,25,70) by three strokes. This meant Billy Bob took the
major Bladder points (see - year to
date Bladder) but left Pup
leading the club championship based on highest number of card submitted. (see
YTD 2017 championship results). The committee congratulates Billy
Bob on his brilliant performance and indeed all winners on the day. The
committee reminds members to book early for the ‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Kup to be run on Good Friday – 14th April, so
see you there (See TM1 2017 Event Report). |

Australian Masters Open Kup, (AMOK), January 2017 Date: 26/01/2017 |
|
Pup |
‘Club Champ Runs AMOK’ So The Growling Frog was in tip top condition on a very pleasant and
comfortable 27 degree day (unlike last year), which prompted ten elite nnomads GC members to turn out to compete in the
Australian Masters Open Kup for 2017. And as usual, it was a very tight competition with some truly
spectacular golf on display. In fact, it was so tight that at the end or
regular play Club Champion Pup
(94,19,75) and Freddie Five Iron
(111,36,75) were in equal first place at three strokes over the card! But that is where the quality golf ended (sorry for the honesty guys),
because as usual a chip off was called for in the clubhouse car park to
determine the winner, in which both players performed miserably (neither got
anywhere near hitting The Cardinal
or the bottle just in front of him). Within this context, it was Club
Champion Pup who prevailed which
was probably a fair result as he was the only competitor who managed to break
100 strokes on the day This meant reigning Club Champion Pup
took the major Bladder points (see - year to date Bladder) and also
started the year in front in the 2017 club championship (see YTD 2017 championship results). The committee congratulates Pup on
his outstanding on-course performance (excluding the chip-off), and indeed
all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members to book early for
first Triggered Major for 2017 to be run on Labour Day in March at Yarrambat.
(See AMOK 2017 Event report). |
