‘Santa Decanter’ (SC) - 2016 Date: 27/12/2016 |
|
The Bloke |
‘Bloke Growls at Santa’ So, the weather was kind of strange with temperature predictions
ranging from 29 to 35 degrees before the event. But it didn’t matter because the
last event of the year, The Santa Decanter, was to be the event that
determined who would be the club champion for 2016. And at the end of the day, it was the The Bloke (90,17,73) who prevailed by four strokes over Pup (96,19,77) with Nurse Min (109,31,78) a further stroke
behind. This meant The Bloke took the
major Bladder points (see - year to
date Bladder) but his performance was not enough to take back the lead
from Pup in the club championship.
This of course means Pup becomes
the 2016 nnomads
Golf Club champion with an average of 70.75 strokes over his best four events
for the year beating The Bloke by 0.25 strokes (see YTD 2016 championship results). The committee congratulates The
Bloke on his brilliant performance and indeed all winners on the day. The
committee also congratulates Pup on
his 2016 club champion status, a sensational result. The committee also reminds members to book early for the first major
event in 2017 which will be the Australian Open Masters Kup
(AMOK) to be run at the Growling Frog on Australia day. So book early and
come and see the club championship presentations which should be truly memorable. (See full SD event report). |

‘Triggered Major 2’ (TM2) -
2016 Date: 10/12/2016 |
|
The Bloke |
‘Bloke Beats Greek to Comfy Chair’ Well it was another wonderful Yarrambat kind of day with perfect
weather for the running of the 2nd Triggered Major of the year at
Yarrambat park. Hence, the eight competitors making up an exclusive and
impressive field, were very excited as they teed off in perfect conditions
for golf. And clearly some competitors really took advantage of those perfect
conditions exampled by Pup’s
sensational longest drive on the 9th and Stavros’s fantastic series of NTPs on the 5th, the 8th,
and then 12th followed up by his impressive longest drive on the
15th. So at the end of the competition, it came down to a chip off between The Bloke (91,18,73) and Stavros the Greek (98,25,73). The
adjudicating committee decided to place a chair over the other side of the
road near the back carpark and appointed Slugger
to be the final referee. Well you just had to be there to appreciate it. This
closest-to-the-comfy-chair playoff
turned out to be sensational with both players launching brilliant attempts.
And as would be expected, both player’s ball were lost in the long grass, but
Slugger was adamant that the Bloke’s ball would have been closes if
it could be found. Stavros the Greek
wanted to measure the distances to the comfy-chair, but his requests were
drowned out by the adoring crowd congratulating The Boke on another sensational win. This meant The Bloke took the
major Bladder points (see - year to
date Bladder) but his performance was not enough to take back the lead
from Pup in the club championship
(see YTD 2016 championship results).
In fact there is only 0.5 of a stroke separating Pup and The Bloke
meaning this year’s club championship will be determined by the results of
the last event of the year, the Santa Decanter. The committee congratulates The
Bloke on his brilliant performance and indeed all winners on the day. The
committee also reminds members to book early for the now all important Santa
Decanter to be run between Christmas and New year. (See full TM-2 event report). |

‘Melbourne Cup Cup’ (MCC) - 2016 Date: 2/11/2016 |
|
Pup |
‘Pup returns to the MCC winner podium’ As usual, Cinders was on the
scene at 6.15am to sample a coffee and croissant at Café-de-Steph, in the
carpark at Yarra Bend golf course, the traditional starting point for the
annual running of the Melbourne Cup Cup. The course
was in superb condition and the weather perfectly suitable for golf, setting
the scene for a great day of competition between 10 players fortunate enough
to have gained entry to this prestigious event. Then came news of Sluggers
withdrawal (tripped over a step and broke a rib on the BBQ), followed by Freddie Five Iron’s withdrawal (forgot
to set alarm and slept in after going to bed very early in a sober
condition), which left eight players. But as tee-off time approached, then
arrived and then passed, there was no sight of The Cardinal (who later explained he couldn’t be bothered). But it didn’t matter because the remaining 7 players teed-off into a
glorious morning of very competitive golf, with some sensational performances
coming to light. Top of the list of examples was Pup (84,23,61), who ended up nine strokes under the card and best
off the stick. However, this was a Callaway event which of course Pup won easily being nine strokes
under the card and best off the stick. This meant Pup took the major
Bladder points (see - year to date
Bladder) and most notably took the lead from The Bloke in the club championship. He is now well in front with
only one or two major events remaining
on the 2016 calender (see YTD 2016 championship results). The committee congratulates Pup on
his magnificent performance and indeed all winners on the day. The committee
reminds members to book early for the Triggered Major 2 in the 2nd
week of December (See full MCC event report). |

‘Patricia Isabel Slape Memorial
Golf Tournament’ (PIS) - 2016 Date: 21-22/10/2016 |
|
The Bloke |
‘Bloke pisses into wind for Victoria’ It was great to watch the immediate past PIS champion ‘The Captain’, hand on the PIS Green Jacket
to a Victorian, at the end of a very competitive two days of golf competition
in Port Fairy. The rain welcomed the tour for half of the round on Day 1 (but
it came good), and the wind was certainly in-play on both days of
competition. The course was in fantastic condition, and the spectacular
on-course ocean views were simply standout, creating a sensational
environment for the running of the PIS 2016.
This meant The Bloke took the
major Bladder points (see - year to
date Bladder) and continued to maintain his enviable lead in the club
championship (see YTD 2016
championship results). The committee congratulates The
Bloke on his brilliant performance and indeed all winners on the day. The
committee reminds members to book early for the Melbourne Cup Cup in November (See full PIS event report). |

‘Victorian Open Masters
Invitational Tournament’ - 2016 Date: 11/6/2016 |
|
Pup |
‘Pup VOMITs Again as the Bloke’s Puppies Tame the Pack’ So it was back to Yarrambat Park for the annual running of the Victorian
Open Masters Invitational Tournament (VOMIT), which is of course both an
individual and team event.
The teams event was not that close with The Bloke’s Puppies (222) easily beating The Cardinals Sphincters
(238) and The Rubber Greeks (246)
on net team score. This meant Pup took the major
Bladder points (see - year to date
Bladder) and improved his positioning in the club championship with The Bloke maintaining a reduced lead
(see YTD 2016 championship results).
The committee congratulates Pup and The Bloke’s Puppies on their superior
performance and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members
to book early for the PIS in Octobers and the Melbourne Cup Cup in November
(See full VOMIT event report). |

‘ANZAC Day Medal’ - 2016 Date: 25/4/2016 |
|
The Hanging Judge |
‘Judge Clear in ANZAC Day Massacre’ The Growling Frog was in superb condition on a truly perfect day as ten
eager competitors stepped up to the tee for the annual running of the ANZAC
Day Medal. And lest we forget the
fantastic performances produced on that day. It is fair to say that age will
not weary them nor the years
condemn one of the best individual performances of the year. Those that
were there will know we are talking about The
Hanging Judge (96, 25, 71) who produced a one stroke under the card
performance to easily beat an in-form Billy
Bob Thornton (103, 29, 74) by three strokes with third place getter Pup (100, 23, 77) a further three
strokes behind. With two Nearest-the-pins, in effect it was an ANZAC day
massacre with The Judge a clear
winner which with the going down of the
sun we will remember him. The obvious result was The Judge
taking most of the Bladder points (see - year to date Bladder) while giving
himself a real boost in the club championship. However, The Bloke remains at the top with an enviable lead (see YTD 2016 championship results). The committee congratulates The
Hanging Judge on his sensational performance and indeed all winners on
the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major
event, The Victorian Open Master Invitational Tournament (VOMIT) to be run on
the Queen’s birthday weekend in June, so book early. (See full ADM event report). |

‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup
- 2016 Date: 25/3/2016 |
|
Freddie Five Iron – Winner on nnomads
GC handicap |
‘Freddie Proves He is Blessed’ Fortunately, we were able to get on at Ringwood GC on short notice and fortunately
there was a quality turnout for the annual running of the Blessed are the Big
Nose’ cup. And as expected, the weather was perfect as was the course, or at
least when compared to Yarrambat for the last major event. What wasn’t expected was Freddie
Five Iron’s outstanding six strokes under the card performance (100, 36,
64), which was three strokes better than Markus
Octavious (101,34.67) and seven strokes better
than Billy Bob Thornton (100, 29,
71) in 3rd place. Of particular note was the usual poor adding up
of the score cards which resulted in Slugger
and Stavros the Greek being awarded
a ball each for equal 3rd place. Consistent with nnomads GC policy, Slugger
and Stavros will retain their prize
balls but will not be awarded the points while Billy Bob will get both a prize ball and the points (see - year to date Bladder). While Freddie gained a significant boost on
the year to date 2016 club championship ladder, The Bloke remains at the top with an enviable lead (see YTD 2016 championship results). The committee congratulates Freddie
on his fabulous performance and indeed all winners on the day. The committee
also reminds members to book early for the next major event, The ANZAC day
medal to be held at the Growling Frog on ANZAC day, so book early. (See full BBNC event report). |

Triggered Major 1 - 2016 Date: 14/3/2016 |
|
The Bloke – Winner on nnomads GC
handicap |
‘Bloke Majors in Triggered’ Well it was another Yarrambat kind of day with perfect weather and a
sensational field albeit the course being in terrible condition. For example,
the first green was fenced off forcing use of a wimpy temporary green at the
bottom of the hill on the 1st fairway. And that was probably the
best green on the course!!! The rest of the greens had been sanded and cored
creating a truly shocking surface. This meant that putting was a particular
challenge and a truly unpleasant one at that. That said, all players had to cope with the same conditions so the
situation still provided a great platform for a competition. Of particular
note was the fact that The Bloke
(83,18,65) appeared to lap up the conditions beating The Hanging Judge (94,24,70) by a full five strokes with Curtis
and Markus Octavious a further stoke behind. This meant that The Bloke
took most of the Bladder points on offer (see - year to date Bladder) further
cementing his top place on the year to date 2016 club championship ladder
(see YTD 2016 championship results).
The committee congratulates The
Bloke on his second convincing win in 2016 and indeed all winners on the
day. The outcome shows that The Bloke
is already the main competition to beat in the nnomads
Golf Club championship in 2016 which
should provide motivation for all members to participate in upcoming major
events so we can beat the bastard!!! (See
full TM-1 event report). |

Australia Masters Open Kup (AMOK) - 2016 Date: 26/1/2016 |
|
The Bloke – Winner on nnomads GC
handicap |
‘Same Bloke Runs AMOK AGAIN’ There was almost no controversy associated with the annual running of
the Australia Open Masters Kup for 2016 which as
usual was held at the Growling Frog. In fact it was deja-view
all round with the same group of fabulous players wearing the same clothes
generating the same outcome as last year. Now some may think that is a little harsh because this year there was
in fact a three-way tie between The
Bloke (91,18,73), Billy Bob
Thornton (102,29,73) and Pup
(96,23,73). So, consistent with nnomads GC
tradition, a play-off was called for to determine the final winner. Billy Bob had to leave before the results
were announced which made him the default third place getter. Then The Bloke displaced Pup in a single shot closest to the
sign chip off competition to determine the top two spots (see video coverage
of the AMOK 2016
Play-off). So where was all the sameness you ask? Well The Bloke won last year (same winner),
he was wearing exactly the same clothes (see last year’s
presentation shot) and he won with exactly the same score (91.18,73).
Further, Pup was also second last year, wearing exactly the same tee shirt!!
Same, same, same! And that meant that The
Bloke took out the major Bladder points (see - year to date Bladder) and slipped
into top place on the year to date 2016 club championship ladder (see YTD 2016 championship results). The committee congratulates The
Bloke on a convincing start to 2016 and indeed all winners on the day.
The standard has certainly been set high in the first nnomads
Golf Club major event in 2016 (see
full 2016 AMOK event report).
