Pup 2nd November 2016 Yarra Bend |
Standardised Event Report: ‘Pup returns to MCC winner podium’ |
|
November 2nd 2016: As
usual, Cinders was on the scene at
6.15am to sample a coffee and croissant at Café-de-Steph, in the carpark at
Yarra Bend golf course, the traditional starting point for the annual running
of the Melbourne Cup Cup. The course was in superb
condition and the weather perfectly suitable for golf, setting the scene for
a great day of competition between 10 players fortunate enough to have gained
entry to this prestigious event. Then came news of Slugger’s
withdrawal (tripped over a step and broke a rib on the BBQ), followed by Freddie Five Iron’s withdrawal (forgot
to set alarm and slept in after going to bed very early in a sober
condition), which left eight players. But as tee-off time approached, then
arrived and then passed, there was no sight of The Cardinal (who later explained he couldn’t be bothered). |
|
But it didn’t matter because the remaining 7 players, the cream of the nnomads Golf Club
membership base, teed-off into a
glorious morning as what could only be described as a [insert preferred headline] field. Preferred headline alternatives – 1)
Impressive, 2) Top class, 3) Sensational, 4) Magnificent and 5)
Awe-inspiring. First onto the
tee in Group 1 were event co-sponsor
Rubber Man, Cinders and Billy Bob Thornton, closely followed by Nurse Min, The Bloke, Stavros the Greek
and event co-sponsor Pup in Group 2 With such a highly skilled and
competitive field like this, it was clearly going to be a [insert preferred headline] competition
(see 2016 Player Groups). |
|
Standout quality on
course: And that is exactly how it turned out with
a truly a [Rotate alternative headlines] a display of how to play competition golf. Perfect examples
of such expertise included Cinder’s
[Rotate alternative headlines] NTP on the 4th
hole, The Bloke’s NTP on the
10th hole, Stavros the
Greek’s [Rotate alternative headlines] NTP on the 14h, Pup’s [Rotate alternative headlines] Longest
Drive on the 6th and Stavros
the Greek’s [Rotate alternative headlines] Longest Drive 15th. It is fair to say that the
adoring gallery got their money’s worth that day (see On Course in 2015). |

Pup returns to the
winner’s podium: But there was one player who
stood out from the rest and that was Pup
(84,23,61) who ended up nine
strokes under the card and best off the stick. However, this was a Callaway
event which of course Pup won
easily being nine strokes under the card and best off the stick. And
as usual, most of the remaining field were within five strokes of each other,
the nature of Callaway competition (see
detailed results below). Huge presentations: This meant
the presentations back in the carpark were a [Rotate
alternative headlines] celebration of Pup’s [Rotate
alternative headlines] performance (see Photos of
2016 presentations). ‘Well I haven’t
played much golf recently so maybe that’s the secret’ explained Pup to the media pack clambering for a
comment from the returning champion (see 2015 Champion Winner Speech). |
|
The Club
committee congratulates Pup on his
[Rotate alternative headlines] return to
the MCC winners podium and indeed all other winners on the day. The committee
also reminds members to book early for the next major nnomads
Golf Club event – The 2nd Triggered Major in early December. So see you there. |

Note: We lost the Callaway calculations. Thus, the above table shows
stroke scores.
However, we didn’t think anyone would notice and it didn’t matter after Pup’s [Insert
