and pictorial histories of each major event in 2013).

The Santa Decanter (SD) - 2013

Date: 29/12/2013
Course:
Sandringham GC , Sandringham, Victoria

Glass half empty as Stavros gets to the Decanter: It was the final nnomads CG major event for the year (unless a triggered Major is played on New Year’s Eve) and there was an excellent turnout despite The Hanging Judge pulling out at 5.00am claiming he was going on a quick trip with the family. “More likely The Judge is visiting those clients in Dandenong” suggested The Cardinal who decided not to mention brothels at the time.

And the competition proved tough as Sandringham Golf Course threw all it could at the field all vying for the Fabulous Santa Decanter trophy (half full of Jagermeister at the time). But there can only be one winner, being Stavros the Greek who put in a truly inspirational performance on the day.

However, his win was somewhat overshadowed by the much greater interest in the 2013 nnomads golf club championship which all depended on the outcome of this event. And in a sensational result The Bloke took it out by 0.5 of the stroke from Don Johnson who was 0.2 of a stroke in front of Rubber Man in third place (See YTD 2013 championship results).

The committee congratulates Stavros on a remarkable performance and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members to book early for the first major event of 2014 – The AMOK to be run on Australia Day. (Full event report available shortly). Note: The club championship officially finishes at midnight on the 31st of December. Hence, the committee waits until then to make the outcome official and congratulate the 2013 winner – almost certainly The Bloke

The SHanksy Invitational Tournament (SHiT) - 2013

Date: 7/12/2013
Course:
Kingston Links, Scoresby, Victoria

No SHIT on Rubber Man: So everyone got there in the end to find almost perfect weather and a course in pretty good condition. “Well I thought the tees were a bit disappointing and the bunkers not up to par.” suggested Curtis who had been somewhat unimpressed by a bunker or two.  But it didn’t matter because most of the tour had a fabulous time watching Rubber Man slay the course!

That’s right and I will say that again, ‘he slayed the course’ because that’s just what he did. When the final leader board was set in stone, Rubber Man (92,26,66) was ten strokes in front the next best player and seven strokes under the card (ACR 73), a truly ‘no SHIT on me’ type of performance in anyone’s language.

In fact it was a nnomads Golf Club 2013 Club championship defining moment because based on this result Rubber Man took the lead from The Bloke who had just taken it from Don Johnson after the last major event (see YTD 2013 championship results).

The committee congratulates Rubber Man on this year’s championship defining moment and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members to book now for the Santa Decanter on the 29th December, being the last major event of the year. (See full event report).

The Melbourne Cup Cup - 2013

Date: 5/11/2013
Course:
Yarrambat Park, Yarrambat, Victoria

Curtis comes back with cup: As everybody knows, Curtis has been damaged for some months (or so he claims) and hasn’t been playing golf (or so he claims). Hence, it was somewhat surprising to find out that Curtis had made himself available for the annual running of one of the most sort after titles on the nnomads Golf Club tour, being the Melbourne Cup Cup.

Normally this event is run at Yarra Bend, but this year they were running a corporate event (or so they claimed) making the course unavailable. “What? You have got to be joking!” cried the Seal Bros in unison when they heard the news. Which is the reason the MCC ended up at the former home of the nnomads GC being Yarrambat Park.

So in ten words or less – Curtis took out the MCC 2013 event in the first game of his comeback to the nnomads tour. Do you believe that? And he took most of the prize balls as well. Do you believe that? And he hasn’t played golf in months (or so he claims). Do you believe that? That means Curtis is now on the 2013 Bladder and has submitted a card for the 2013 championship, albeit a little late in the year to beat hot favourites The Bloke and Don Johnson, but you never know.

It should be noted that The Bloke overtook Don Johnson in this year’s club championship after this event which means the last few championship events will be critical (see YTD 2013 championship results).

The committee congratulates Curtis on his return to the fold and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members to book for the SHanksy Invitational Tournament (SHIT) in early December, being the second last major event of the year, unless a Triggered major appears out of know where. (See full event report).

The Balnarring Invitational Tournament - 2013

Date: 19/10/2013
Course:
St Andrews, St Andrews Beach, Victoria

A BIT for MILD: So after being beaten in the chip-off the night before (see below) The Mild Colonial Boy was in ferocious form as he joined another fifteen competitors in the Balnarring Invitational Competition for 2013.

And as expected, St Andrews was in perfect condition with those enormous bunkers very much in play along with the metre high grass that made the rough a no-go zone. And as was expected a number of players spent quite some time in the rough in part explaining why The Mild Colonial Boy (93,18,85) was able to displace Markus Octavious (108,32,76) by a single stroke and Stavros The Greek (107,30,77) by a couple.

However, the standard of play was not good enough to displace Don Johnson who remains at the top of the leader board after a weekend of major competition (see YTD 2013 championship results).

The committee congratulates The Mild Colonial Boy on his second win in the BIT and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members to book for the Melbourne Cup Cup in November, being the next major event of the year (see full event report).

The Tulum Sands Callaway Classic - 2013

Date: 18106/2013
Course:
Flinders Golf Club, Flinders Victoria

Bloke does over Mild in Classic: The picturesque Flinders Golf Club was in perfect condition as always setting up this year’s Tulum Sands Callaway Classic to be something really special.

And that is exactly what it was with fifteen competitors on course and a wind to be believed. And once again it all came down to a play-off or should I say a chip-off in the back yard at Palmers Hill between The Mild Colonial Boy and The Bloke. And as the headline suggests, it was The Bloke (89,15,74) that outdid The Mild Colonial Boy (94,20,74) in a best of three chipping competition. As usual there were a number of controversies on course that which will be explained in detail in the event report to be released shortly.

The committee congratulates The Bloke on his first major win for 2013 and indeed all winners on the day (see full event report).

The Victorian Open Masters Invitational Tournament - 2013

Date: 10/6/2013
Course:
Yarrambat Park, Yarrambat, Victoria

Pup has another VOMIT: Well it goes to show that the weather can be kind in the middle of winter as was exampled at the recent annual running of the Victorian Open Masters Invitational Tournament run at Yarrambat Park.

As usual the Cardinal was the event sponsor inviting a select group of nine competitors to contest this most prestigious event. But despites some wonderful efforts, last year’s champion won out again (95,22,73) making it back to back VOMIT championships. The Bloke was three strokes behind (96.20.76) in 2nd place with The Don one stroke behind him (98,21,77) in third place. However, The Don’s efforts were significant in that despite only gaining third place, he increased his lead in the club championship (see YTD 2013 championship results).

The committee congratulates Pup on another fabulous win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members to book for the BIT in October, being the next major event of the year (A full event report will be available shortly).

The nnomads GONADS Teams Cup - 2013

Date: 10/6/2013
Course:
Yarrambat Park, Yarrambat, Victoria

The Greek Bloke-Dogs

Bloke Dogs Do it Again: Consistent with the winner of the individual event (The VOMIT), The Greek Bloke-Dogs were able to take out the nnomads GONADS Teams Cup event for the second year in a row (net score = 227), beating the Frintzn-Shagn Ministers (net score 239) and the Rancid Religious Relics (net score 243) convincingly.

“We really need some new competition next year because it is a bit embarrassing to win again so easily” confided Team Captain The Bloke after the presentations. “Well that’s the plan if you really want to know. Next year we are inviting interstate teams to compete. So don't get too cocky big fella" added the Cardinal with a rye smile.

The committee congratulates The Greek Bloke-Dogs on another fabulous win. The committee also announces to members that next year will be an expanded event with teams competing from their local courses interstate. (Details to be announced in due course).

The ANZAC Day Medal - 2013

Date: 25/5/2013
Course:
Growling Frog, Whittlesea, Victoria

Rubber Man Bounces Back: So it was a magnificent day at the Growing Frog for the annual running of the ANZAC Day Medal and as you would expect, a number of past champions were in attendance (but a couple weren’t …. hmmmm ….. their loss). Of significance were the fabulous celebrations after the event (but you will need to read the full event report to find out what happened).

And what they were celebrating was a most worthy win by Rubber Man who has been a prolific winner in the past but has slumped a bit in recent times. But Rubber Man has clearly bounced back taking out the event by a single stroke (101,24,77) from Stavros in 2nd place (106,28,78) with The Hanging Judge and The Bloke a further stroke back in equal 3rd place. In fact, The Bloke and The Hanging Judge dominated the NTPs and longest drives while Octavious took out the Endeavour award. However, the year to date club championship leader board didn’t change with The Don just maintaining his lead (see YTD 2013 championship results).

The committee congratulates Rubber Man on a fabulous and well-earned win and indeed all winners on the day. And lest we forget the next major event, the VOMIT in early June – Put it in your diary now! (See full ADM event report).

‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup - 2013

Date: 29/3/2013
Course:
Amstel Golf Club, Cranbourne, Victoria

The Don Does it Again, Again: Well it was The Cardinal who suggested Amstel Golf Club which proved to be a tired old course you wouldn’t choose to play again. “Yeah, the greens were so bumpy your ball would get air as you putted. I just didn’t know” claimed the Cardinal back at the club house.

But that didn’t hold back The Don who believe it of not did it again. Yes that is two majors in a row putting him at the top of the club championship leader board year to date (see YTD 2013 championship results). In fact once again The Don was the only player to come in under the card (94,73,21) winning by a clear 7 strokes from Stavros (105,27,78). The Don also took out the longest drive while Slugger and The Bloke took out the NTPs.

The committee congratulates Don Johnson once again and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also points out that The Don now needs some real competition at the ANZAC Day Medal to ensure his run for the 2013 club championship is not too easy (see full BBNC event report).

Triggered Major 1 - 2013

Date: 11/3/2013
Course:
Waterford Valley, Scoresby, Victoria

The Don Does it Again: After a recent decision by a quorum of members to change the criteria for a triggered major (now only requires eight players), the second nnomads Golf Club major event for 2013 was held at Waterford Valley in only what could be described as extreme conditions (35 degree heat for most of the game). Hence, there was a pretty good excuse for players to claim extenuating circumstances and as you can imagine some did.

But not The Don who took advantage of the situation putting in an exceptional five strokes under the card performance (90,23,67). In fact Don was five strokes in front of the next player The Hanging Judge (96,24,72) and eight strokes in front of The Bloke in third place (95,20,75). Pup and Slugger took out the Longest Drives, The Hanging Judge took out the NTPs and Rubber Man took out the Endeavour Award.

The committee congratulates Don Johnson on his outstanding performance but points out that Slugger remains the YTD leader in the nnomads Golf Club championship in 2013 closely followed by The Don (see YTD 2013 championship results and the full TM 1 – 2013 event report.

Australian Masters Open Kup - 2013

Date: 28/1/2013
Course:
Growling Frog, Whittlesea, Victoria

Slugger Slays the Frog: The Australian Masters Open Kup, was the first nnomads Golf Club major event for 2013 and as usual it was controversial. It wasn’t the fact that Slugger won the event with ease (921,24,67), coming in five strokes under the card. Nor was it the fact that Slugger and Don Johnson took out the longest drives and Pup took out the only NTP. Rather, the real controversy was in part driven by the loss of three players prior to tee off, in part by the way some of these players were lost to the tour, and in part by the fact that Slugger didn’t face any real competition all day.

The committee congratulates Slugger on his sensational start to 2013 and points out that Slugger is now leading the nnomads Golf Club championship in 2013 (see YTD 2013 championship results). The full event report has all of the details and is an interesting read to say the least (see full event report – AMOK 2013).
