Event Report: ‘No SHiT on Rubber Man’ Saturday 7st December 2013: So the 5,566 metre 73 ACR Kingston Links was in perfect
condition and once again the weather was ideal for the annual running of the Shanksy Invitational Tournament (SHiT).
This was after it had rained all week illustrating the ‘heavenly’ powers or at
least the ‘good connections’ possessed by event sponsor Don Johnson, who had been supremely confident that the weather would
clear up for the event. “Look I sent a
text to the Master of Space Time and Dimensions - ‘Pitte
Man’ in South Australia, and ordered good weather. So I had it covered from
the beginning” he explained as he wondered what all the fuss was about. Top class field: “I have played golf all over the world and
never have I seen such ill..illum..uminating company …” stuttered
soon to be Champion Rubber Man as
he accepted the trophy, but we are getting a little ahead of ourselves. But Rubber Man was right, because it was a
top class field that stepped up to the 1st tee including event
sponsor and last year’s champion Don
Johnson, past SHIT champion and soon to be SHiT
champion again Rubber Man, aspiring
SHiT champion The
Cardinal, past SHiT club champion Slugger, present nnomads
Golf Club champion Stavros the Greek,
past SHiT champion Pup, aspiring SHiT champion Freddie Five Iron and past SHiT champion multiple times – Curtis. With a line up
like that it was clear that anyone could win the 2013 event (see SHiT 2013
player groups). Superb conditions
on-course: Generally the conditions on
course were excellent although Curtis
was not overly impressed “I thought the tees were a bit
disappointing and the bunkers not up to par.” he suggested when asked to comment after
the game. But it didn’t matter because most of the field had a fabulous time
watching Rubber Man absolutely slay
the challenging yet picturesque course (see on course at the SHiT
2013). No SHiT on Rubber Man: That’s right and I will say that again, ‘Rubber Man slayed the course’ because
that’s just what he did. When the final leader board was set in stone, Rubber Man (92,26,66)
was ten strokes in front of the next best player and seven strokes under the
card, a truly ‘no-SHIT-on-me’ type
of performance. Pup (97,211,76) and
Don Johnson (98,22,76) were a distant
equal second, and Curtis (99,21,78)
believe it or not got a ball for third or fourth place depending how you interpret
the data. Mind you Curtis got a longest
drive and NTP as did Slugger proving
both these guys were not just pretty faces. Stavros and Pup got the
remaining NTPs while Slugger took
out the ‘Zucchini award’ for 2103 (previously pineapple award). This meant
the presentations were a glorious affair (see photos of 2013 SHiT
presentations) including an appropriate and inspiring speech from this year’s
champion Rubber Man (see video of SHiT
2013 winners speech,). The leader board
changes: The Club committee
congratulates Rubber Man on becoming
a SHiT champion for the second time and of course
all winners on the day. The Committee also points out that due to his
fabulous performance in the SHiT, Rubber Man took the lead in the 2013 nnomnads Golf Club championship from The Bloke and Don Johnson
who remain very close behind. This means that this year’s nnomnads
Golf Club championship will be decided at the final major event for the year
being – The Santa Decanter to be run on Sunday the 29th of December.
