‘BIT goes north once again’

Once again, the Balnarring Invitational Tournament for 2025 was run at Flinders Golf Club in perfect course conditions and cooler weather conditions. Once again, player numbers were down due to short notice and a midweek time slot, but the quality of play was outstanding.

And once again it was the Maroon Breasted Warbler (100,29,71) who easily took out the event, beating equal second place getters Nurse Min (106,30,76) and Stavros the Greek (96,20,76). Of particular note, was the fact that this is the third year in a row the Warbler has won the event, meaning the BIT trophy will be heading north once again.

This meant the Maroon Breasted Warbler took the major Bladder points (see Year to date Bladder), but did not impact on Nurse Min’s position at the top of 2025 Club Championship leadership board (see YTD 2025 championship results).

The committee congratulates Maroon Breasted Warbler on an inspiring win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2025, being the Santa Decanter in late December (Full event report available soon).

‘TJ wins the Melbourne Cup Cup

As most readers will know, the score card for Balnarring Invitational Tournament is also used to calculate a Callaway handicap which in turn is used to determine the winner of the Tulum Sands Callaway Classic.

And as usual, the Callaway event results were very close with all players within a four stroke range. But the standout player was Nurse Min (106, 30,76) who edged out last year’s winner Stavros the Greek (96,21,77) by one stroke to take the classic for 2025.

This meant Nurse Min took the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder). It also meant Nurse Min remained at the top of 2025 Club Championship leader board (see YTD 2025 championship results). Note: The TSCC does not impact on the club championship.

The committee congratulates Nurse Min on another stunning win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the last major event of 2025, being the Santa Decanter in late December (Full event report available soon).

TJ

Winner on Calaway handicap

‘TJ wins the Melbourne Cup Cup

So, the annual running of the Melbourne Cup Cup was better than expected with almost no rain (expected to be bucketing down), and a Yarra Bend course in excellent condition (expected to be in average condition after wet week). And while the field was two men down (sick Stavros, Cardinal no show), it turned out to easily meet the high expectations of the longest running event on the nnomads Golf Club event calendar.

Of note was the absence of the two brothers Rubber Man and Pup who have organised the event since its inception over 25 years ago. Fortunately, TJ stepped into their big shoes, taking the reins and running a sensational event. And of course, the field toasted the brothers in absentia both before and after the game to acknowledge the great men who couldn’t make it on the day.

And following in the footsteps of the brothers, TJ won the event (92,21,71), beating Curtis (90,18,72) a single stroke behind with Cinders (113,39,74) a couple of strokes further back. Of course, this was a Callaway event with handicaps calculated on the day. And as usual there was some controversy associated with the scoring albeit agreement that the outcomes were basically the same no matter which scoring approach was used.

This meant TJ took the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), but could not displace Nurse Min who remains at the top of Club Championship (see YTD 2025 championship results).

The committee congratulates TJ on another sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee sends it’s regards to the absent Brothers Rubber Man and Pup emphasising they were sorely missed. The committee also reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2025, being the BIT later in November. (Full event report available soon).

‘TJ has a VOMIT’

Well, the 4th nnomads Golf Club major event for 2025, was the ‘Victorian Open Masters Invitational Tournamentrun at the Growling Frog in very blowy conditions with cored and scarified greens making putting a nightmare. Battling the conditions were six hearty souls who contested the event with style and resilience rarely seen in modern nnomads golf. And, some sensational golf was played across the group making the outcome very close indeed.

The standout performance this time was TJ (94,21,73), who came in 1 stroke over under the card, and 1 stroke in front of the next best player Curtis (92,18,74), with Stavros the Greek (100,21,79) a few strokes behind them in 3rd place.

This meant TJ took the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), but could not displace Nurse Min who remains at the top of Club Championship (see YTD 2025 championship results).

The committee congratulates TJ on a sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2025, being the BIT in either October of November. Details available shortly (See Full VOMIT 2025 event report).

‘Lest we forget The Nurses’

So, the third nnomads Golf Club major event for 2025, was the ‘ANZAC Day Medal run at Yarrambat Park in less than perfect conditions. Again, turnout was down with seven contenders in the comp, but again the quality was top shelf. The predicted rain held off until the 13th and was easy to contend with. However, the course condition was shocking with dry hard fairways driving huge bounce and roll, not to mention cement like conditions everywhere else.

Despite the conditions, some excellent golf was played with several great performances. But none could beat the standout performance of Nurse Min (98,30,68), who came in 4 strokes under the card, and 4 strokes in front of the next best player TJ (92,20,72), with The Bloke (88,15,73) a further stroke behind in 3rd place.

This meant Nurse Min took the major Bladder points (see - Year to date Bladder), and also maintained top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2025 championship results).

The committee congratulates Nurse Min on an emphatic win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2025, the Victorian Open Masters Invitational Tournament (VOMIT) in June 2025. (Full event report available shortly).

‘Blessed are the big Nose’ Cup (BBNC), April 2025

Date: 19/04/2025
Course: Growling Frog, Woodstock, Victoria

Nurse Min

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘The Nurse has a Big Nose’

So, the second nnomads Golf Club major event for the 2025 year, was the ‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup, again run at the Growling Frog on ‘Nail-up’ day. This year turnout was down with only six contenders, but the quality of those stepping onto the 1st tee was standout. Of note was the extremely strong winds on the day, making the conditions arduous to say the least.

At the end of the day Nurse Min (108,32,76) and Billy Bob Thornton (103,27,76) were both on Net 76 strokes with The Bloke (97,16,81) and Stavros the Greek (99,18,81) five strokes further back in equal 3rd place.

Normally, this meant there would be a chip-off between Nurse Min and Billy Bob but for a number of controversial reasons (Mums the word), the chip off was delayed for a week, due to be played at the ANZAC Day medal the following Friday. And to the gallery’s dismay and disappointment Billy Bob was a no-show, cancelling at the last minute, and giving up any claim to the trophy.

This meant Nurse Min was the rightful winner, took the major Bladder points on offer (see - Year to date Bladder), and moved into top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2025 championship results).

The committee congratulates Nurse Min on an excellent win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2025, the ANZAC Day Medal on the 25th of April 2025. (Full event report available shortly).

Circuit Board

Winner on nnomads GC handicap

‘Circuit Board Sparks at AMOK’

As always, the first nnomads Golf Club major event for the 2025 year, was the ‘Australian Masters Open Kup’ run at The Growling Frog on Invasion Day. As expected, the turnout was good with eight contenders stepping onto the 1st tee in perfect conditions for golf.

With the absence of reigning champ TJ, it was Circuit Board (109,36,73) who stepped up, winning by 2 strokes from 2nd placegetter Curtis (93,18,75), with Stavros the Greek (99,21,78) a few strokes further back in 3rd place.

This meant Circuit Board took the first major Bladder points for 2025 (see - Year to date Bladder), and moved into top spot on the club championship leader board (see YTD 2025 championship results).

The committee congratulates Circuit Board on a sensational win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next major event of 2025, the Blessed are the Big Nose Cup in April 2025. (See Full AMOK 2025 event report).
