2010 Bladder Audit Report

July 31st 2010

This audit report presents the outcomes of an audit of results for all weekly and major competitions held between January 1st and July 30th 2010. The report has two components as follows:

1.    Detailed report: A detailed description of all incidents where more prize balls were allocated than player numbers (see detailed audit report).

2.    Summary of potential adjustments: A summary table containing potential adjustments by player if all extra balls and associated points were removed from Bladder and Strike Rate (see summary of potential adjustments).

Conclusions and recommendations that come from the audit are presented in the main article associated with this report (see main audit report article).

Bladder Audit Report – 1st January to 31st July 2010

(According to the rules)

31/1/2010

Yarrambat

Mark V allocated extra ball (2 points) for getting over 40 stableford points

We have been doing this since the introduction of stableford in May 2008. Every player who has gained 40+ points has got a bonus ball. If this was omitted from Bladder then Mark would lose 2 points. This is just a convention and is not mentioned in the rules.

22/`2/2010

St Andrews Beach

Three players and four prize balls (2 balls to Min for winning, 1 ball to Shanksy for NTP and 1 ball to Tom for Longest drive). They paid for the extra ball.

If extra ball was omitted from Bladder then Tom would lose 2 points because club rules say -  2 balls for winner and must be an NTP (1 ball). However, rules say can pay for extra ball so was legal at the time.

28/`2/2010

Yarrambat

Six players and seven prize balls. Emile won (3 balls), Brendan 2nd (1 ball), Fang NTP1 (1 ball), Brendan NTP2 (1 ball), Brendan LD (1 ball)

If extra ball was omitted from Bladder then either Brendan or Fang would lose 2 points because one of either an NTP or LD would have to be discounted (but difficult to say exactly who it should be) or they could lose 1 point each.

13/3/2010

Ringwood

Four players and five prize balls. Shanksy and Fang equal first (2 balls each) and Fang NTP (1 ball).

If extra ball was omitted from Bladder then either Shanksy or Fang would lose 2 points or they would each lose 1 point).

27/3/2010

Yarrambat

Three players and four prize balls available. Harry won (2 balls), Brendan 2nd (1 ball), no NTP (1 ball not won).

If extra ball was omitted from Bladder then Brendan would lose two points because rules say 2 balls for winner and 1 ball for NTP. Hence, shouldn’t be a 2nd place.

2/4/2010

Devilbend

Eleven players and 13 prize balls. Harry won (3 balls), Fang, Steve and Mark V equal 2nd (2 balls each), Steph 2 x LD (2 balls), Harry NTP (1 ball), Steve NTP (1 ball), and 2 NTPs didn’t go off.

If four extra balls were omitted from the Bladder then Fang, Steve and Mark V would lose 2.67 points each because second place prize was 2 balls (but we gave equal prizes to equal second because not all the NTPs went off).

5/4/2010

Growling Frog

Four players and five prize balls. Pete won (2 balls) Shanksy and Brendan equal second (1 ball each), Brendan NTP (1 ball).

If an extra ball was omitted from the Bladder then Shanksy and Brendan would lose 1 point each because there should only be 1 ball for 2nd place, not two.

24/4/2010

Growling Frog

Nine players and 12 prize balls. Slugger won (3 balls), Shanksy 2nd (2 balls), Pete and Harry equal third (1 ball each), Brendan NTP (1ball), Shanksy NTP (1 ball), Fang NTP (1 ball), Slugger LD (1 ball), Pete LD (1 ball).

If three extra balls were omitted from the Bladder then Pete and Harry would lose 2 points each (as third isn’t normally a prize). In addition, one of those players who won an NTP or LD would lose 2 points (not sure how to chose who) or all of them (Fang, Brendan, Slugger, Shanksy and Pete) would lose 0.4 points each.

26/6/2010

Yarrambat

Four players and five prize balls. Pete and Steph equal 1st (2 balls each), Pete NTP (1 ball).

If one extra ball was omitted from the Bladder then Pete and Steph would lose 1.5 points each because should only be 3 balls for first and second combined.

10/7/2010

Yarra Bend

Eight players and nine prize balls. Pete and Fang equal 1st (3 balls each), Steve 3rd (1 ball), Pete LD (1 ball), Steve NTP (1 ball)

If an extra ball was omitted then Fang and Pete would lose 1 point each because there were only five balls available for 1st and 2nd combined (but the club donated a ball to give equal recognition to winners).

17/7/2010

Yarra Bend

Two players and four prize balls. Harry won (1 ball), Shanksy NTP (1 ball), Harry NTP (1 ball), Shanksy LD (1 ball). Extra balls were paid for.

If two extra balls were omitted from the Bladder then Harry would lose 2 points because Shanksy won the NTP on the shortest hole) and Shanksy would lose 2 points because the LD was an additional ball that would not be included normally. However, rules say can pay for extra balls so was legal at the time.

Addendum:

27/7/2010

Yarra Bend

Four players and five prize balls. Tom won (2 balls), Steve and Fang equal second (1 ball each), Jack NTP (1 ball).

If one extra ball was omitted from the Bladder then Fang and Steve would each lose 1 point because should only be four balls available in total (1 ball only for 2ndsplit between them). Note: It has become convention to provide equal balls to equal prize winners at the club’s expense (which sounded like good policy until recently).  This practice is not listed in the rules.
