 ‘Pup’ our 2010 club champion

26/1/2010 - nnomads Golf Club champion gets his reward: The press were jostling and hustling as the nnomads Golf Club Champion for 2010, Pete was presented with his championship trophy at the Growling Frog on Australia day.

And any wonder because Pup ended up with an average net score of 71 strokes across his best four championship events in 2010. Further, this was a full 1.5 strokes better than the next best player, the Bloke on net 72.5 strokes with the Cardinal a further net 1 stroke behind the Bloke on net 73.5 strokes.

Pup started to show form with his 88 off the stick (net 68) at St Andrews during the Monarch Of The Tulum in May 2010. He then consolidated his position with a 91 off the stick (net 72) at Yarra Bend in the Melbourne Cup Cup in November combined with a 90 off the stick (net 71) at Kingston Links in the SHanksy Invitational Tournament in early December. He then blew away the competition by winning the Santa Decanter at Waterford Valley with a 91 off the stick (net 73) in late December. That gave him an average of net 71 strokes across the four major events, one of the most convincing championship wins for some years.

Pup also topped the Bladder in 2010 winning 46 balls in 25 games (19% of the 243 balls awarded in 2010), which gave him the highest Strike rate in 2010 (a ball to game ratio of 184%), and 121 bladder points. Essentially, it was a clean sweep for the Pup in 2010.

“Well I had to beat an incredible field and I am in awe of the talent that competes every week...” started Pup as he went into his acceptance speech (see visual version of speech). But it didn’t matter because everyone knew what he had achieved in the year that was 2010 and everybody agreed that ‘Pup’ was a deserving champion in 2010.
