The Santa Decanter (SD) 2009 Date: 28/12/09 |
|
|
Shanksy gets to fill 'Santa's decanter': The first triggered and final major nnomads Golf Club event of 2009, Santa's decanter, was held at Warterford Valley last weekend and an exceptional event it proved to be. The 6060 metre, ACR 72 rated course was in superb condition and the weather even better. On the day, ten players turned out to compete for the sensational 'Santa's decanter', which is a new trophy donated by Pete S (thanks Pete!). There wasn't a player in the field that didn't want to win that decanter so the scene was set for a tough day of competition. But there can only be one winner and Shanksy proved too tough to beat. His 88 strokes off the stick and net 71 kept him two strokes in front of 2nd place getter Brendan (net 73 strokes) and equal third place getters Tom and Fang (net 74 strokes). To further illustrate Shanksy's superior performance, he won two longest drives and and one of four NTPs. The other three NTPs were taken out by Brendan, Fang and Pete S. All the great man could say was "Thank you, thank you" as he lifted 'Santa's decanter' over his head and acknowledged the adoring gallery (see Shanksy's acceptance speech - short version). The committee congratulates Shanksy on
his fantastic performance and wishes all members and associates the best for
the festive season (see summary of the
Santa Decanter 2009). |

Steph 'Shocking' in Melbourne Cup Cup: As shocking as it may seem, Steph proved triumphant in the Melbourne Cup Cup for 2009. Up against a field of thirteen competitors, Steph managed to hold off a stream of superb performances to finally get his hands on a highly sort after Melbourne Cup Cup trophy for the first time. "As shocking as it might sound, it's a dream come true" gleamed Steph as 'The Brothers' presented him with the 2009 trophy. "Did he say 'shocking' in the cup this afternoon?" ask Fritz busily jotting down the tip. As usual, 'the Brothers' shared in the prizes with Pete taking out the longest drive and Steve one of the NTPs. The Cardinal took out the other NTP to round out a truly fantastic day. The cub committee congratulates Steph on his commanding performance, noting that this is the second Callaway event Steph has won in under a month - see Summary and photos of MCC 2009 |
