Weekly competition rules

The nnomads Golf Club weekly competition uses both ‘Stroke play’ and ‘Stableford’ formats, normally played on alternative weeks. Both competitions are run according to the current Royal and Ancient Rules of Golf (see R&A Rules of Golf 2019), subject to local rules on each course. The nnomads Golf Club committee recommends copies of this publication are sometimes carried at all times. For allocation of prizes in the weekly competition see ‘prize allocation’ below. Resources available to members include:

The Rules Of Golf 2019 Players Version

Changes to The Rules Of Golf 2019 (Link to Golf Australia website)

In event of tied scores: If scores are tied in the weekly competition then a play-off of some type must be conducted. This can be in the form of playing any hole or a chip off or a put off or some other form of agreed competition (i.e paper, scissors, rock).

Major event rules

nnomads Golf Club major events use one of three formats - ‘Stroke play’ or ‘Stableford’ or ‘Callaway’. The format is chosen by the event sponsor. All competitions are run according to the current R&A Rules of Golf (see R&A Rules of Golf 2019). Callaway competitions use a handicap calculated on the day (see Callaway handicapping system), while stroke play and Stableford competitions use the nnomads Golf Club handicapping system or a published Golf Australia handicap.

For allocation of prizes in major competitions see ‘prize allocation’ below.

Prize ball allocation

Rules governing prize ball allocation in the weekly and major competitions are as follows:

·       Number of balls: The number of balls available is dictated by the number of players. One ball is available per player with a standard entry fee of $2.00 per competitor. Thus, two players means two balls available, eight players means eight balls available, twelve players means twelve balls available etc. Balls are allocated per the following table.

·       Always an NTP: Every competition must contain at least one NTP. Hence one ball must be allocated to the NTP as a matter of course. The NTP is always the shortest hole on the course unless decided otherwise prior to commencement of play.

·       Longest drive: To win a longest drive the ball must be on the fairway (not in the rough) and be the ball hit the furthest from the tee. Longest drive holes need to be specified prior to play.

Club Championship rules
The winner of the club championship will be the Player with the lowest average net score taken over a minimum of four Official nnomads Golf Club events. If more than four events are entered the lowest four net scores are used.

The calculations:

·        The gross scores of each player's best four net scores from all Official nnomad Handicap Events entered, are added together, resulting in the total gross score.

·        The handicaps used to get these best four net scores are also added together, resulting in the total handicap.

·        This is then subtracted from the total gross score, to give the players total net score.

·        The total net score is then averaged, giving the players average net score.

·        The Player with the lowest average net score at the end of the year will be the club champion.

Entry Conditions

1.     Entrants must submit a minimum of four complete score cards from nnomads Golf Club major event competitions or officially sanctioned events from associated golf clubs.

2.     Entrants must be active members of the nnomads Golf Club (but submitting four cards is active enough).

3.     Entrants must attend and pay the attendance fee in the relevant competitions. If this is not possible (for example for regional or interstate competitors), entrants are asked to submit their four most recent score cards for handicapping purposes prior to each major event (unless that player has a nnomads Golf Club current handicap).

Handicapping system

The nnomads Golf Club handicapping system is based on the World Handicap System introduced in 2020 (see World handicap system). nnomads Golf Club GA handicaps are calculated by averaging the ‘slope played to’ scores from the best eight cards from the last twenty games. The ‘daily handicap’ is then calculated by taking the GA handicap multiplied by the course slope rating divided by 113. Then the difference between Scratch rating and Par for the course is added. Then the total is multiplied by 0.93 and rounded to whole number.

Daily Handicap = ((GA Handicap x (slope rating / 113) + (scratch rating – par for course)) x0.93 and round result

Example:

A player’s GA handicap is 15.2, slope rating is 124, Scratch rating is 72, Par is 70

Apply the slope rating to the GA handicap                                        15.2 x (124/113) = 16.68

Add the difference between scratch rating and Par                                      + (72-70) = 18.68

Apply the 0.93 multiplier                                                                                     x 0.93 = 17.37

Then round the result to get daily handicap                                                17.37 rounds to 17

The differences between the Golf Australia and the nnomads Golf Club handicapping systems are:

·         The nnomads Golf Club handicapping system ignores the hard CAP provision. (Note: The hard Cap provision is where a player’s GA Handicap is not permitted to increase by any more than 5 strokes beyond their best/lowest GA Handicap from the previous 12-month rolling period.)

·         The nnomads Golf Club handicapping system ignores the soft CAP provision. (Note: The soft Cap provision is where a player’s GA Handicap reaches 3 strokes above their best/lowest GA Handicap from the previous 12-month rolling period after which a player’s handicap is only allowed to increase by 50% of the calculated amount).

·         The nnomads Golf Club handicapping system ignores the bonus reduction for exceptional net score (Note: The bonus reduction for an exceptional net score is where a player’s score is 7.0 - 9.9 strokes better than what their GA Handicap was at the time the round was played then an automatic additional reduction of 1.0 strokes to their GA Handicap is applied. If the player’s score is at least 10.0 strokes better than what their GA Handicap was at the time the round was played, then an automatic additional reduction of 2.0 strokes to their GA Handicap is applied).

·         The nnomads Golf Club handicapping system uses a manual playing conditions calculation (PCC) where by a qualitative judgement is made on the day about whether the playing conditions are easier or harder than normal (-1 = easier than normal, 0 = normal conditions, +1 = a bit harder, +2 = harder still, +3 = much harder).

Membership of the nnomads Golf Club
Members of the nnomads Golf Club are those people deemed to be members by a quorum of the committee at any point in time, assuming the member has paid the membership fee deemed appropriate by the committee at that point in time.

A ‘quorum’ of nnomads Golf Club members

To change any nnomad Golf Club ‘rule’ or ‘convention’ or ‘common practice’ a quorum of nnomads Golf Club members is required.

A quorum for the purposes of decision making is defined as:

·       At least 7 nnomads Golf Club members

·       Resolutions must be passed by an absolute majority of the quorum present at the time.

A quorum can be called at any time seven or more nnomads Golf Club members are present and decisions can be implemented immediately (but transition management for major decisions is always considered).
