‘The Warbler returns as Stavros pips The Bloke’ |

2024: So, this year’s Balnarring Invitational Tournament (BIT) and Tulum Sands
Callaway Classic (TSCC) was again a cut-down version with only a select few
players able to attend the mid-week event. But the traditional venue being
Flinders Golf Club, was in suburb condition, making those who did attend,
very happy they did. |

Quality on the tee: So, the first
of the two groups teeing off at Finders GC contained Thombei the Mist,
Nurse Min and Circuit Board followed by Stavros the Greek, the Maroon
Breasted Warbler, and The Bloke in the second group. It was clear from
the outset it was going to be a tough and gruelling competition (See BIT and
TSCC Player Groups). Excellence on course: And that is
how it turned out with quality golf on display all day. Perfect examples
included The Bloke’s sensational NTP on the 12th, Circuit Board’s
fantastic Longest Drive on the 7th, Stavros the Greek’s
Brilliant Longest drive on the 15th and finally The Bloke’s
best off the stick overall (90, 15,75). Clearly the near perfect conditions
weather wise and course wise inspired all competitors to exceed expectations
(See On course at the BIT and TSCC) Warbler gets another BIT: As
readers will know, there are two events run in conjunction with each other
using the same score card. The 1st was the BIT which is based on
nnomads GC handicaps, in which the Maroon Breasted Warbler (99,
29,70), easily won the event by four strokes from Stavros the Greek
(95,21,74), with The Bloke (90,15,75), one stroke behind in 3rd
place. And of course, the Warbler also won the BIT last year, which
was very convenient because the BIT trophy plate was left at the Warbler’s
place in QLD, which meant he did not need to send the trophy to someone else
if they had won (see substitute plate in presentation photos). Stavros gets the cup: The 2nd
event was the TSCC which is based on a Callaway handicap calculated on the
day, in which Stavros the Greek (95,22,73) and The Bloke
(90,17,73) came in equal in 1st place. This meant there had to be
a play-off or more aptly described as a chip-off back at Chez Min’s in
which Stavros eventually prevailed. (See TSCC chip off video). Not to be forgotten in all the commotion was Thombei
the Mist (104, 29, 75), who came in 3rd place on Callaway
handicap. Celebrations at the presentations: So, the presentations were true celebrations of the Maroon
Breasted Warbler’s sensational second BIT win in a row, and Stavros
the Greek’s fantastic TSCC win in a chip-off. “I would like to thank
the event organisers …” started out the Warbler as he held up his
substitute BIT trophy. “Thank you very much, a good day was had by all”
commented Stavros as he stepped towards the presentation dais. The Club
committee congratulates Maroon Breasted
Warbler and Stavros the Greek on their fantastic wins and indeed all
winners on the day. The committee reminds members to book early for the next
major nnomads Golf Club major event – The ‘Melbourne
