The Bloke |
‘Bloke Blasts Greek’ Well, the second not-so-weekly competition for 2023 was held at RACV
Cape Schanck on a beautiful autumn day. And even though there were only two
competitors, it proved to be a tussle from beginning to end. Well, that is not quite true because while The Bloke shot 19 points and
Stavros the Greek shot 18 points on
the first 9, it was The
Bloke who really stepped up and took on the course shooting 20 points on
the last 9 while Stavros faltered in
multiple bunkers to only shoot 12 points. This meant The Bloke got the majority of
the points available on the day (see YTD 2023 Bladder), and player
handicaps were adjusted accordingly (see latest nnomads Golf Club
handicaps). The committee congratulates The Bloke on a
great win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members
of Kevin
Costner who famously said
“Sex and Golf
are the only two things you can enjoy if you are not good at either.” |

Stavros the Greek |
‘Stavros Scores High at
Flinders’ So, the first not so weekly competition for 2023 did not happen until
March, or at least no games were reported to the club which is not unusual
based on not so recent history. On this auspicious occasion, there were four
competitors including Thombei the Mist, Nurse
Min, Stavros the Greek and The
Bloke. The weather was supposed to close in and the wind was supposed to be
up there so all players were prepared for wild and woolie day. But it just didn’t happen leaving the solitary four players in near
perfect conditions on a beautiful course. But there has to be a winner and that day it
was Stavros the Greek (85,20,65), who shot an astonishing 5
strokes under the card, to beat ` (89,15,74) by 9 strokes with the rest of
the field lagging just behind. Of note was the fact that Stavros also got the NTP on Aunt Sally which really toped
off his day. This meant Stavros took the major
points on the Bladder (see YTD 2023 Bladder),
and player handicaps were adjusted accordingly (see latest nnomads Golf Club
handicaps). The committee congratulates Stavros on a great win
and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of Gerald
Ford who famously said
“I know I am
getting better at golf because I am hitting fewer spectators.” |
