‘Bloke steal Curtis Thunder’

Well, the third not-so-weekly competition for 2021 was held at Gardiner’s Run in the middle of the week and to celebrate Curtis’s Birthday. Being organized at the last minute, it was a quiet threesome who presented on the day including The Bloke, Stavros the Greek and of course Curtis.

From the very beginning both Curtis and The Bloke were at their best staying within a point of each other until the last two holes at which point, Curtis (29 Stableford points) finally fell over with two wipes in a row, handing the competition to The Bloke (32 Stableford Points).

This meant The Bloke took the major points on the Bladder (see YTD 2021 Bladder), and player handicaps were adjusted accordingly (see latest nnomads Golf Club handicaps).

The committee congratulates The Bloke on a great win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of James Barrett Reston who famously said “Golf is a plague invented by the Calvinistic Scots as a punishment for man’s sins.”

‘Welcome back at the Bat

Well, the second not-so-weekly competition for 2021 was finally held at Yarrambat, a full 10 months after the first. This was of course due to COVID-19 which has slowed up play somewhat during Melbourne’s 6 lockdowns. But the minute we were able to play we did with a pathetic turnout of only 4 players including Curtis, The Bloke, Nurse Min and Stavros the Greek.

Of note was the fantastic condition of the Yarrambat course and the magnificent weather (sunny and 30 degrees with a light cooling breeze). This made the event a truly memorable day.

Or at least for some players, for example Curtis who was pretty consistent all day winning the event with 29 points, a good effort after not playing golf for months. Other players were not so consistent with Stavros the Greek coming in second with 27 points and the others just behind.

This meant Curtis took the major points on the Bladder (see YTD 2021 Bladder), and player handicaps were adjusted accordingly (see latest nnomads Golf Club handicaps).

The committee congratulates Curtis on a great win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of Lee Treveno who famously said “You don’t know what pressure is until you play for five bucks with only two bucks in your pocket.”

‘Misty at the Run’

Well, the first not-so-weekly competition for 2021 was a beauty held at Gardiners Run on a threatening weatherwise sort of day, which didn’t eventuate, making it a perfect day for golf. There were four contenders who stepped up to the first tee including Curtis, The Boke, Thombei the Mist and Stavros the Greek setting up perfect conditions for a real competition.

But in the end, the competition really was between two players, both in fine form, with Thombei the Mist (40 stableford points), edging out Curtis (37 stableford points), in the final few holes. And Thombei really stamped his mark on the game with a magnificent, had to be seen to believe NTP on the 16th just to rub salt in the wounds of the other players.

This meant Thombei took the major points on the Bladder (see YTD 2021 Bladder), and player handicaps were adjusted accordingly (see latest nnomads Golf Club handicaps).

The committee congratulates Misty on a great win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of Gary Player who famously said “Golf is a puzzle without an answer. I’ve played the game for 50 years and I still haven’t the slightest idea of how to play.”
