Curtis |
‘Curtis Masters the Bat’ This time the not-so-weekly competition was at Yarrambat Park with
a miserable turn out of only two players being Stavros
the Greek and Curtis. The course was in
very good condition after all the rain, which bodes well for the Triggered
Major to be played there in a couple of weeks’ time. However, there is not a lot to say about
the performance on course where Curtis (30 stableford points), was masterful albeit with a hiccup or two,
while Stavros
the Greek totally fell over providing almost no competition at all. This meant Curtis took the major points
on the Bladder (see YTD 2020 Bladder),
while player handicaps remained the same (see latest nnomads Golf Club
handicaps). The committee congratulates Curtis on a great win
and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of Bruce Lansky who famously said “We learn so many things from golf—how to
suffer, for instance.” |

Stavros the Greek |
‘Stavros Runs Away’ This time the not-so-weekly competition
was at Gardiners Run which is of course a ‘Club’ Club, or at least that’s
what Stavros
the Greek was telling The Bloke and Curtis who were the only other competitors on the day. The course was in
spectacular condition, except for the bunkers which had suffered badly after
solid rain for two days, and the weather was sublime setting up perfect
conditions for golf. This week the competition was solid
particularly on the back nine where on multiple occasions everyone shot a
par, and where everyone earned 18 stableford points or more for that nine
holes. However, it is fair to say that Stavros the Greek ran away with
the competition gaining 41 stableford points overall, beating Curtis (35 stableford
points) who came in second by 6 points. Not to be left out, The Bloke took out the NTP
with a sensational shot on the 16th, which of course meant he won
a ball. This meant Stavros the Greek took the major points
on the Bladder (see YTD 2020 Bladder),
and his GA handicap came down again. with other player handicaps remaining
pretty much the same (see latest nnomads Golf Club
handicaps). The committee congratulates Stavros on another
excellent win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds
members of Sam Snead who famously said
“If I had cleared the trees and drove the green, it would have
been a great shot.” |

Stavros the Greek |
‘Stavros Storms Club’ So, the second not-so-weekly competition
was a 10am tee-off at the RACV Country Club in Healesville which of course is
not a ‘Club’ Club, just a club. As usual, there were two RACV Country Club
members in attendance being Rubber Man and Thombei the Mist, and two guests
being Stavros
the Greek and The
Bloke. Of note was the fact that the course was in great condition albeit
the greens being a bit slow, and the weather warm but hazy, as has been the
case in Melbourne for a few weeks. It would be good to have said the
competition was fierce and close and it started out somewhat like that with
every player generating a number of great shots. But Stavros the Greek was in fine
form, shooting 22 stableford point on the first nine and then 17 points on
the back nine giving him 39 stableford points overall. That was eight points
better than Thombei The Mist (31 points), in 2nd place with The
Bloke and Rubber Man a little further behind. It should be said that Thombei’s NTP on the 16th was spectacular
giving him a couple of balls for his efforts. This meant Stavros the Greek took the major
points on the Bladder (see YTD 2020 Bladder),
and his GA handicap came down once again. with other player handicaps
remaining pretty much the same (see latest nnomads Golf Club
handicaps). The committee congratulates Stavros on an excellent win
and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of Paul Harvey who
famously said “Golf is a game in which you
yell “fore,” shoot six, and write down five.” |

Rubber Man |
‘Rubber Man Runs Wild’ So, it was the first not-so-weekly competition for 2020 in which Stavros the Greek, Rubber Man and The
Bloke were the
only contenders to turn up at Gardiners Run on a beautiful January day. The
course was in excellent condition which perfectly set up the day for
competition golf. And the competition was fierce for quite a while until Rubber Man put his stamp on the day, leaving the competition in his wake. By
the end of the round Rubber Man (34 stableford points), had taken out the
only NTP, and beaten second place getter The Bloke (30 stableford points) by 4 points with Stavros limping in a further
two points behind. This meant Rubber Man took the first major points on the 2020
Bladder (see YTD 2020 Bladder), with handicaps remaining pretty much the same (see latest nnomads Golf Club handicaps). The committee congratulates Rubber
Man on his convincing win
and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of George Deukmejian who famously said “The difference
between golf and government is that in golf you can’t improve your lie.” |
