Standardised Event Report: ‘Stavros’ scissors beat Pup’s Paper’ |
|
June 7th 2020: Well
the annual running of the Victorian Open Masters Invitational Tournament
(VOMIT) was a more modest affair in 2020 consisting of a single nnomads GC handicap event for individuals held at
Yarrambat Park (i.e. no teams event, a departure from tradition). |
|
Within this context, a solid cross section of
the cream of the nnomads Golf Club membership base
turned out to complete in what could be only described as a [insert preferred adjective],
not-to-be-missed event. Preferred adjective alternatives – 1) Impressive, 2) Top class, 3) Sensational,
4) Magnificent and 5) Awe-inspiring: The first social distancing group onto the tee included Billy Bob Thornton, event sponsor The Cardinal, the Hanging Judge and Rubber Man. They were closely followed by Clean Phil, Freddie Five Iron and Nurse Min
in Group 2, with Stavros the Greek, Pup, The Bloke and TJ in the final group. With such a
highly skilled field like it was clearly going to be a [insert preferred adjective] competitions
(see 2020 Player Groups). |
|
Talent on course: And that is exactly how it turned out with a truly [Rotate from list of preferred adjectives] display of how to play competition golf. Perfect examples
included The Hanging Judge’s [Rotate from list of preferred adjectives] NTP on the 12th hole and his longest drive on the
15th, Billy Bob’s [Rotate from list
of preferred adjectives] NTP on the 5th, Pup’s
[Rotate from list of preferred adjectives] longest drive on the 9th, Stavros the Greek’s
[Rotate from list of preferred adjectives] NTP on the 8th hole, and The Blokes [Rotate from list of preferred adjectives] NTP on the 16th. It is fair to say that the
adoring gallery got their money’s worth that day (see On Course in 2020). |
|
Greek-Pup Tie: At the end of the day, there were two players who stood out
from the rest, and they were Stavros
the Greek (92,18,74) and Pup (91,17,74) who ended up three strokes
in front of equal 3rd place getters Billy Bob Thornton (100,23,77) and The Bloke (93,16,77).
This of course meant a play-off was required. And consistent with nnomads Golf Club tradition, Stavros The Greek
edged out Pup in a sudden-death round of Rock-Paper-Scissors, by
selecting ‘scissors’ over Pup’s choice of ‘paper’ (see detailed individual results below). “Always nice to win
such a prestigious event …” started out the 2020 VOMIT champion as the
media jockeyed for position (see 2020 VOMIT winners Speech). Excellent presentations: This meant the presentations in the Yarrambat car park were a
celebration of Stavros The Greek’s [Rotate from

brilliant day of golf. within the context of a global pandemic. |

committee congratulates Stavros the

day. The committee reminds members that the next major event in 2020 is the
Melbourne Cup Cup, unless a Triggered Major sneaks
into the event calendar before then. |
