Stavros the Greek 19th March 2018 Yering Meadows - Homestead |
Standardised Event Report: ‘Greek successful in play-off’ |
|
March 19th
2019: Once
again the annual running of the Blessed
are the Big Nose Cup was run at Yering Meadows in the picturesque Yarra
Valley with beautiful views on a lovely warm autumn day…. |
|
And once again
a solid cross section from the cream of the nnomads Golf Club membership base
turned out to compete, creating only what could be described as a [insert preferred adjective] field. Preferred adjective alternatives – 1) Impressive, 2) Top class, 3)
Sensational, 4) Magnificent and 5) Awe-inspiring: This year’s Group 1 contained The Cardinal, Slugger, The Bloke and
Billy Bob Thornton, while Group
2 contained Markus Octavious, Rubber Man, TJ and Stavros the Greek. With such a highly skilled field, it was
clearly going to be a [insert preferred adjective] competition (see 2019 Player Groups). |
|
Brutal on course: And that is exactly how it turned out with a truly a [Rotate from list of preferred adjectives] a display of how to play competition golf – NOT! Better
performances included Slugger’s [Rotate from list of preferred adjectives] NTP on the 22nd, and his [Rotate from
list of preferred adjectives] longest drive on the 23rd
hole, with The Bloke’s [Rotate from list of preferred adjectives] longest drive on the 5th hole the only other
highlight on the day. That said, it is fair to say that the adoring gallery
got their money’s worth that day (see limited coverage of On Course in 2019). |
|
No result after tough
conditions: So, at the end of the day Stavros the Greek (102,23,79) and Billy Bob Thornton (108,29,79) were
equal on net 79 strokes, which according nnomads Golf Club rules, requires a
play-off to determine the winner. However, Billy Bob decided to skip the presentations which proved
problematic (see detailed results below). Eventually, the problem was solved
after a play-off (see below). Partial presentations: So, the original presentations on the night, back in
Slugger’s place acknowledged TJ as 3rd place getter, and even The Bloke (103,20,83) was given a ball
for 4th place (go figure?). And of course, NTPs and Longest drive
prizes were presented. And of course, the fantastic sausages on bread cooked
personally by Chef Slugger were
devoured in minutes just prior to the presentations – Thanks Slugger! Stavros eventually
successful: Of note was the fact that a
play-off to determine the winner was planned for the ANZAC Day Medal to be
played the following week. However, this time Stavros the Greek didn’t turn up (claimed to be sick or some lame
excuse), once again making it impossible to determine the winner. Eventually,
the situation was resolved after the team’s event at the VOMIT, where Stavros
and Billy Bob finally had the play-off in the dark at Casa-de-Pup
on the Bellarine peninsular (see play-ff video). ”It was a long hard fought
battle” started Stavros as he briefly addressed the media on hand (see BBNC Winner’s
speech) |

The Club
committee congratulates Stavros the Greek
and indeed all other winners on the day. The committee also reminds members
that the next major event in 2019 is the ‘ANZAC
Day medal, to be run at the Growling Frog on ANZAC day. So book early and see you there. |

This month’s competition: Why wasn’t rock, scissors, paper adequate as
a play-off?
