‘Bloke Bends it Again’

Well we are now well into the 2016 not-so-weekly competition which this week was held at Yarra Bend in late May on a another glorious autumn Friday. There were only two competitors at the 10.15am tee off being Stavros the Greek and The Bloke. But that didn’t matter because the competition proved fierce with a single stroke between them at the turn. It was then that The Bloke delivered four pars on the back nine (90,17,73), to come in three strokes over the card, cementing a momentous win over Stavros languishing five strokes in arrears. Fortunately for Stavros, he was able to take out the NTP giving him a minor prize. But it was The Bloke who took the major prize and gaining a needed boost on the Bladder (see year to date Bladder results).

The committee congratulates The Bloke on a convincing win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of George Deukmejian who famously said “The difference in golf and government is that in golf you can improve your lie.”

‘Pup shoos the roos’

Finally the second reportable not-so-weekly competition was held at Yarrambat in early May on a glorious autumn Friday afternoon. And while only three competitors turned up to compete including Stavros the Greek, The Bloke and Pup, it proved to be very crowded on course with a huge gallery of kangaroos following the game. Well maybe that was an exaggeration because despite Pup (97,23,74) edging out Stavros (99,24,75) by one stroke in an extremely close game, the Roos didn’t appear to be that interested. This was perfectly exampled by Pup’s feeble attempts to clear the green before putting out on the 17th hole. Further, the Roos appeared equally disinterested with The Blokes sensational longest drive on the 15th. In any case Pup took the winners balls and The Bloke a ball for the longest drive giving them both a boost on the Bladder (see year to date Bladder results).

The committee congratulates Pup on a very close win and indeed all winners on the day. The committee also reminds members of Billy Graham who famously said “The only time my prayers are never answered is on the golf course.”

Curtis - Winner on
nnomads handicap and NTP

‘Curtis Curtails the Aspirations’

So the first reportable not-so-weekly competition was finally held at Yarrambat in April of 2016. And what a competition it was with Stavros the Greek, The Bloke and Curtis all jockeying for position and of course the balls and Bladder points on offer.

Despite it being a perfect day for golf and the course being in much better condition than the last playing occasion, Curtis didn’t give Stavros or The Bloke a chance. In fact he decimated the aspirations of the would be contenders with a magnificent four under the card performance (81, 13, 68) beating next best performer The Bloke (91, 17, 74) by six strokes.

Further, Curtis easily took out the Nearest the Pin on the 16th with a hybrid four iron shot that needed to be seen to be believed. This meant Curtis won all the balls on offer and claimed all of the available Bladder points (see year to date Bladder results).

The committee congratulates Curtis on a sensational win and reminds members of George Duekmejian who famously said “The difference between golf and government is that in golf you can’t improve your lie.”

Note: There have been other not-so-weekly competitions in 2016 including Curtis and The Bloke who played at Yarrambat in January, Stavros and the Bloke who played at Gardiners Run in February, and Pup who played with his son at Healsville RACV club in early March. But none of them submitted their cards! The committee notes this disgraceful behavior and encourages members to submit all cards for all relevant not-so-weekly competition games (unless you can’t be bothered or the score may adversely affect your handicap).
