Latest ‘Not so weekly’ competition results – 2015

Date: 11/4/2015

Course: Yarrambat, Yan Yean, Victoria

Stavros The Greek - Winner on

Curtis - NTP

‘Stavros Sticks it out’

Well once again, it was the reliable three that turned up to Yarrambat for the not-so-weekly competition namely Stavros the Greek, The Bloke and Curtis. And once again it was a Yarrambat kind of day with beautiful weather and Yarrambat kind of conditions (questionable greens but better than last time).

But this time somewhat different because it was Stavros the Greek (94,25,69) that stuck it out to the end to gain a three strokes under the card result and the claim to be a clear winner on the day. That is not to mention Curtis who took out the NTP on the 16th hole with a sensation ‘not in the bunker’ shot, but that’s another story.

All this meant that Stavros the Greek took out most of the points on the Bladder with Curtis taking minor points (see updated Bladder). And Stavros came in a Stroke while the other remained the same (see latest handicaps).

The committee congratulates Stavros The Greek on a stunning result and reminds members of Phil Mickelson who famously said “The object of golf is not just to win. It’s to play like a gentleman and win.”

Previous ‘Not So Weekly’ results – 2015

Date: 13/3/2015

Course: Ivanhoe PGC, Ivanhoe, Victoria

Curtis - Winner on
nnomads handicap and NTP

‘Curtis Cleans Up’

“So why don’t we ever play at Ivanhoe” asked Stavros the Greek when trying to work out where to play? “What a stupid question that was” commented The Bloke to Curtis after the game “Because it’s a short, quirky, shity golf course. That’s Why!” retorted Curtis at the time.

And of course Curtis was right. Note to self - Never play at Ivanhoe again!

But it didn’t matter because the weather was fine and the company awe-inspiring. And despite the poor on-course conditions, Curtis (81,15,66) blasted his way to two stroke under the card result leaving The Bloke and Stavros in his wake. In addition, Curtis took out the only NTP on the day giving him a clean sweep and all the available points on the Bladder (see updated Bladder). Mind you the slope rating was so low (103) that handicaps didn’t chasnge (see latest handicaps).

The committee congratulates Curtis on an impressive result and reminds members of Arnold Palmer who famously said “Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated”

Course: Yarra Bend, Fairfield, Victoria

Don Johnson - Winner on

The Bloke - NTP

‘Don in his domain’

So after numerous rejections (not available type excuses), Stavros the Greek, The Bloke and Don Johnson played the first ‘Not So Weekly’ competition for 2015. And of course Yarra Bend is one of Don Johnson’s favourite courses - NOT.

But the perfect 28 degree sunny day with a light cool breeze type conditions, lifted the trio’s spirits, setting up the perfect scenario for perfect golf.

And while that didn’t quite happen, perfect golf I mean, Don Johnson excelled on the day (96,24,72) showing that he has recovered from injury and is setting the pace in the 2015. Mind you, The Bloke and Stavros were in the running right up until the end in part exampled by The Blokes sensational NTP on the 3rd, edging out The Don by less than a metre. This mean The Don and The Bloke took the points on the Bladder (see updated Bladder) while the handicaps were updated for the first time in 2015 (yes very slack) resulting in numerous changes (see latest handicaps).

The committee congratulates Don Johnson on an excellent result and reminds members of Ted Ray who famously said “Golf is a fascinating game. It has taken me forty years to discover I can’t play it”
