The Bloke 26th January 2015 Growling Frog GC |
Event Report: ‘The Bloke runs AMOK at the Frog’ January 26th 2015: As is often the case with this event, only eight of nine confirmed
players turned up on the day for the annual running of the Australia Masters
Open Kup at the Growling Frog (What happened to the Cardinal?). “Look I was renovating at the time and I gave you a few hours’ notice.
What more do you expect” explained the Cardinal by text after reading
this article. But it didn’t matter because this meant there were two groups
to battle it out on a somewhat windy but pleasant sort of day. Cream of the crop: And what quality groups they were with Billy Bob Thornton, The Bloke, Rubber Man and Markus Octavious
in the first group and Pup, Nurse Min, Stavros the Greek and Freddie Five Iron in the second group
illustrating that the cream of the crop were in attendance. Once again, it
meant it was bound to be a fierce competition (see AMOK player groups 2015). Fierce competition on
course: And that is exactly what happened, in
that, the quality of the golf on display was as good as it ever has been, fully
entertaining the adoring gallery throughout the day (mainly made up of
disinterested kangaroos). “Now that is
not saying very much. So it was probably a good call to go sailing” tweeted Don Johnson
on Twitter after reading the previous line. “Look here Don, we aspire to be the upper echelons of mediocre golf
and we achieved that admirably” retweeted soon to be crowned 2014 club
champion Rubber Man on receiving The Don’s tweet. And of course Rubber Man was right, perfectly
illustrated by The Blokes sensation
NTP on the 2nd, and his fantastic Longest Drive on the 8th.
Equally illustrating this point, was Nurse Min’s glorious NTP on the 16th
and Stavros the Greek’s magnificent
Longest drive on the 15th. Hence, as you can imagine, it was a truly
sensational day (see on course at the
AMOK 2015). The Bloke ran AMOK: However, by
the end of the round a clear winner emerged being The Bloke, who put in a one over the card performance (91,18,73)
to beat Pup (97,21,76) three
strokes behind, with Rubber Man (101,21,80)
a further four strokes behind. The
Bloke was also best off the stick on the day which when combined with his
Longest Drive and NTP, made it a truly memorable performance. “I had to do something to offset the
depression generated by passing on the club champion’s trophy.” added The Bloke later in the day. Appropriate presentations: As
you can imagine, the presentations in the car park afterwards appropriately celebrated
all winners on the day. And as you can imagine, the gallery burst into
cheering and applause as The Bloke
was handed the perpetual AMOK trophy for 2015. “It’s been a terrific event. Windy, but a great day for golf …”
started out The Bloke who then went
on and on and on about his new driver being a key reason he won the event (see
video of the 2015
AMOK Champion’s speech and photos of the AMOK 2015 presentations). This
of course means that The Bloke
leads the club championship at this point in time albeit very early in the 2015
competition year. The Club committee congratulates The Bloke on taking out the first major of 2015 and indeed all
winners on the day. The committee also reminds members that the next nnomads Golf Club major event,
is a ‘Triggered Major’ to be played
on Labour Day, Monday the 9th of March. So book early for this
not-to-be-missed event to avoid disappointment. |
