The Santa Decanter (SD) -
2014 Date: 27/12/2014 |
||
|
‘Slugger Earns a Slug on the Decanter’ Well talk about controversy!! So eight players were expected to play in
the not-to-be-missed Santa Decanter 2014. Then it became apparent that Freddie Five Iron had slept in taking
it down to seven players. Meanwhile Stavros
the Greek had totally forgotten the event, taking it down to six players.
Then The Bloke rang Stavros who then bolted for the
course, getting there just as players started to tee off which took the numbers
back to seven players again. Then The
Cardinal decided he didn’t want to play after putting out on the first
green which took it back to six players again. All this also meant that The Bloke started in the 1st
group but finished in the 2nd group, which made talking player
group photos a complex process. But it didn’t matter, because it was a magnificent day played in
perfect conditions, which gave Slugger
(93,24,69) the perfect reason to play out of skin, or at least well enough to
sneak in front of The Bloke
(89,19,70) and Rubber Man
(92,21,71). All that meant that Slugger
took out the major Bladder points (see - year to date Bladder) while Rubber Man slipped into top place on
the club championship ladder. Rubber
Man is now in front of Nurse Min
by a mere 0.2 of the stroke, with only five days in the championship year to
go (see YTD 2014 championship
results). The committee congratulates Slugger
but points out to members that unless a triggered major happens in the next
few days, Rubber Man looks like a
dead cert for this year’s championship.
Anyone for golf on Tuesday 30th? (See Full Santa
Decanter event report). |

‘Shanksy
Invitational Tournament’ (SHIT) - 2014 Date: 13/12/2014 |
||
|
‘Freddie Fires Off a SHIT’ Kingston Links will go down in history as the venue where Freddie Five Iron finally took out a nnomads Golf Club major event. And he did it with two
five irons and a putter which as any member knows, is the club selection
Freddie prefers and normally plays with. “Hold
on. I won at Uralba one year. So it’s not my only major win” emphasized
Freddie as he stepped up to receive the trophy. And of course he was right, but it didn’t reduce the congratulatory
roar from the adoring gallery nor the uproar that was associated with the
decisions made when The Cardinal
introduced a motion without notice to the quorum in attendance (see full
event report for details - when it is released). Nor did the result have any
impact on the club championship which remains an extremely tight race between
Rubber Man and Nurse Min which remains a difference of 0.3 strokes with one
event to go (see YTD 2014
championship results). That aside, it did mean that Freddie took the bulk of the Bladder points available on the day
making him particularly happy with his efforts (see - year to date Bladder). The committee congratulates Freddie
on a fine effort and indeed all other winners on the day (See full Shanksy
Invitational Tournament event report) |

‘Melbourne Cup Cup’ (MCC) - 2014 Date: 4/11/2014 |
||
|
‘Cinders Burns Bend in MCC’ Well there was absolutely no doubt that this year’s Melbourne Cup Cup was one to remember, in part because of the beautiful
weather, in part because of the sensational catering and hospitability and in
part because Cinders who has
attended every MCC tournament since its inception in early 1990s, finally won
the event in a sensational playoff against The Bloke. This was within the context of some sensational performances from
players such as Rubber Man, Curtis,
Nurse Min and Fritz to name a
few. This of course means that Cinders
got to take home the highly sought after Melbourne Cup Cup,
the only to keep trophy available on the nnomads
Golf Club circuit. Of particular note was the fact that Nurse Min maintained his place at the top of the YTD the club
championship ladder while Rubber Man
leapfrogged three players into second place, 0.3 of a stroke behind Nurse Min
(see YTD 2014 championship results).
Cinders also cleaned up with Bladder points although quite a few players
gained a point or two (see - year
to date Bladder). The committee congratulates Cincers on a
truly inspirational performance and indeed all other winners on the day (see full MCC 2014 event
report). |

‘Balnarring Invitational
Tournament’ (BIT) - 2014 Date: 11/10/2014 |
||
|
‘Nurse has a BIT of his own’ In hindsight the outcome was almost predictable based on recent
performances. But that didn’t stop the sixteen player field turning up to
Moonah Links Legends course on a magnificent sunny day. And it was a day the
lower handicappers didn’t do well which reportedly had absolutely nothing to
do with the fabulous food, wine and
conversation on offer at Palmers Hill the previous evening. To cut the story short, Nurse Min
produced a truly sensational performance (107,43,73)
to come in one stroke over the card, a full four strokes in front of Stavros with Critey a stroke behind that.
And of course, The BIT is Nurse Min’s own event which he has never won
before, making it even more of a celebration which went on into the night …..
Of note was the fact that Nurse
Min moved into top place on the club championship (see YTD 2014 championship results)and
got a boost the Bladder (see year
to date Bladder). The committee congratulates Nurse
Min on a brilliant performance and indeed all other winners on the day
(see BIT 2014 full
event report). |

‘Tulum Sands Callaway Classic
(TSCC) - 2014 Date: 10/10/2014 |
||
|
‘Mild’ takes out Classic’ Callaway events are amazing because the Callaway scoring system
calculates handicaps based on players performance on the day, and generally the
field ends up within a range of 8 strokes of each other net. This year was no exception albeit a year that Mild Colonial Boy (91,17.5,73.5) took out the Classic by one
stroke from Nurse Min (74.5 strokes
net) with a gaggle of players in third place on net 75 strokes (The Cardinal, The Bloke and Maroon Breasted Warbler). The gross
scores also feed into the club championship (see YTD 2014 championship results)
and the points on The Bladder (see year to date Bladder). The committee congratulates Mild
Colonial Boy on a tremendous performance and indeed all other winners on
the day (see full TSCC
2014 event report). |

‘Triggered Major – 2’ (TM-2)
- 2014 Date: 22/9/2014 |
||
|
‘Rubber Man Reigns Supreme’ Further to the whispers in the previous week, the second Triggered
Major for 2014 did occur at Yarrambat Park on a beautiful Sunday in
mid-September. And it was a select seven competitors that took to the field,
the minimum number required to trigger a Triggered Major (see player list in
event report). As it was, some sensational golf was on display and a long list of
prize winners was generated over the course of the game. But none were more
impressive than ‘Rubber Man’ who
reigned supreme (92,23,69) coming home 3 stokes under the card and a clear
stroke in front of Nurse Min
(105,35,70) in second place. This elevated Rubber Man’s position in the 2014 club championship but also
resulted in The Bloke moving back
into 1st place year to date (see YTD 2014 championship results)
while maintaining his position on the Bladder (see year to date Bladder). The committee congratulates Rubber
Man on a supreme performance and indeed all other winners on the day (see
full TM 2 event
report). |

‘Victorian Open Masters
Invitational Tournament’ (VOMIT) - 2014 Date: 9/6/2014 |
||
|
‘Slugger Run Rings Around Wood’ Despite the complaints from the likes of Curtis and Pup about
the quality of the course ... 'It’s a
flat track for the ignorant” suggested Curtis, “and way below what we expect at a nnomads
major” added Pup, the 2014 VOMIT proved to be a brilliant event. The
weather was kind and the course in excellent condition setting the scene for
some superb performances. And it was Slugger who delivered running rings around the rest of the
field with an 8 strokes under the card performance (85,23,62)
taking out both the best-off-the-stick and VOMIT championship trophies. This meant that Slugger took
the major points on the day, took out his second major event for the year,
moved into first place on the year to date nnomads
golf club championship (see YTD
2014 championship results) and elevated his position on the Bladder (see year to date Bladder). The committee congratulates Slugger
on a historical performance and indeed all other winners on the day (see Full VOMIT event
report). |

‘ANZAC Day Medal’ (ADM) -
2014 Date: 25/4/2014 |
||
|
‘Bloke worthy of a Medal’ So it was a perfect almost breathless autumn day at the Growling Frog
for the annual running of the ANZAC Day medal. This also meant the conditions
were perfect for major event golf, setting up an expectation of some
fantastic performances. And that is exactly what happened with a number of standout
performances being produced on the day. But none rivalled The Bloke (89,20,69) who showed he was
worthy of the medal beating Curtis
(90,20,70) by a single stroke with Rubber
Man (97,25,72) a couple of strokes behind. This meant The Bloke took the
major points and moved into first place on the bladder (see year to date Bladder). The Bloke
also moved up the year to date club championship ladder although Stavros moved back into first place by
0.3 of a stroke (see YTD 2014
championship results). The good performances all round also meant a
number of handicaps came down (see latest handicaps). The committee congratulates The
Bloke on another sensational performance and indeed all other winners on
the day (see full ADM
event report). |

‘Blessed are the Big Nose’
Cup (BBNC) - 2014 Date: 18/4/2014 |
||
|
‘Slugger shows them how’ Well the heavens opened (rain that is) as players arrived at Ranferlie, the lasted course to be added to the nnomads Golf Club list of major event venues. And despite
the wet start it proved to be a brilliant day albeit on a challenging course,
in challenging weather conditions requiring constant apparel management for
most but not all players (Note: The Bloke and Slugger turned up in shorts and didn’t even attempt to put on wet
weather gear unlike the rest of the field). And this might be the reason Slugger
showed them how to beat that course. By not having the change clothing all
the time, he avoided any distraction coming in ‘best off the stick’ (101,23,78) and taking out the event
by five strokes from The Bloke (103,20,83),
Rubber Man (106,23,83) and The Cardinal (108,25,83) in equal
second place. This meant Slugger took the
major points on the bladder (see year
to date Bladder) and bolstered his position in this year’s club
championship although it was The
Cardinal who moved into first place year to date (see YTD 2014 championship results). The committee congratulates Slugger
on his first win for the year and indeed all other winners on the day (see
full BBNC event
report). |

‘Triggered Major 1’ (TM1) -
2014 Date: 10/3/2014 |
||
|
‘Markus Masters Morack’ Where are we playing on labour day? This was a common question in the week before the event which prompted the nnomads GC committee to consider the possibility of a
Triggered Major which of course came to pass. And as usual there was some
controversy associated with the choice of venue, this time Morack Golf Course in Vermont. Much moaning and
complaining from Curtis but that’s another story. And as it was, the course
was in good condition albeit with slightly slow greens which pleased some but
not others (including Curtis). But the story of the day was Markus
Octavious (100,32,68)
who took out the event from The
Cardinal (99,25,74) and Stavros the
Greek (101,27,74) in equal second place. In addition, it was The Bloke (96,21,75)
who took out the ‘best off the stick’ which was not surprising based on his
recent form although he bolted before the presentations and hence forfeited a
perfect photo opportunity and his prizes (not really). This meant Markus Octavious took the major
points on the bladder (see year to
date Bladder) and increased his chances in this year’s club championship
(see YTD 2014 championship results).
Further, his handicap came in by a stroke while generally handicaps remained
the same (see latest handicaps).
The committee congratulates Markus
on a truly great performance and indeed all other winners on the day (see
full TM1 2014 event
report). |

‘Australian Masters Open Kup’ (AMOK) - 2014 Date: 27/11/2014 |
||
|
Stavros runs
AMOK again … So it was the first major event for 2014 and there was an excellent
turnout at the infamous Growling Frog on the Australia Day holiday for the
annual running of the Australian Masters Open Kup. Once again, there was quite some controversy because Stavros the Greek took out the event
by one stroke from The Cardinal
with Pup a further three strokes
behind. It was controversial because of the one-stroke penalty rule for a
lost ball which Stavros really took
advantage of losing 2 or 3 balls during the round. It was controversial
because Stavros did the same at the
Santa Decanter in December where he won the event despite losing 4 balls
during the round. A quorum of members changed the rule straight after the event (Vote was
7 for and five against) meaning that from this point forward members need to
play a provisional ball from the original spot whenever they think they might
have lost a ball. If they take the distance (play from where the ball was
lost), a penalty of 2 strokes will apply. But Stavros won the AMOK 2014 according to the rules at the time, so he
took the major points on the bladder (see year to date Bladder) and now
leads this year’s club championship (see YTD 2014 championship results).
In addition, his handicap came in slightly while other handicaps remained
pretty much the same (see latest
handicaps). The committee congratulates Stavros
on a great start to 2014 and indeed all other winners on the day (see full AMOK 2014 event report). |
