Markus Octavious 10th March 2014 Morack GC |
Event Report: ‘Markus Masters Morack’ March 10th
2014: Well it would appear there is a need for
a major event for the Labour Day holiday because for the second year in a row
a triggered major event came to pass on that day. And it appeared to be a
natural occurrence because in the weeks leading up to Labour Day members were
asking whether there was going to be an event on the Labour Day holiday? So
at the last minute, as was the case the previous year, interest in the
potential event was canvassed yielding a potential field of nine players
which met the official requirements for a fully sanctioned nnomads GC ‘Triggered Major’ event (a minimum of seven
players after the rule change last year). An impressive field: Despite
quite some debate about which course the event should be played at, including
“I’m not playing there. That’s a
shocker of a course” from Curtis,
the designated nine players, including Curtis,
turned up at Morack Golf Course on the day in
question. And it was an impressive field despite the mixed views about the
quality of the course, illustrated by Curtis,
The Bloke and Pup in the first
group, The Cardinal, Don Johnson
and Slugger in the second group,
and Stavros the Greek, Markus Octavius
and Nurse Min in the final group
(see TM 1 14 player groups). Pure quality on
course: And in fact most players thought Morack GC was in pretty good condition and was a delight
to play on. This was in part illustrated by some fantastic golf including two
sensational longest drives from Don
Johnson and The Bloke, and five
brilliant ‘Nearest the Pins’ from Markus
Octavius, Slugger, Don Johnson, The Cardinal and The Bloke. Other indicators included the smiles on the faces of
most players and the lack of complaints about the pace of the game which
moved along particularly well (see on course at the TM). Markus Masters Morack: But if you want to win an event like this you really have to
play well and that is exactly what Markus
Octavius did. Markus (100,32,68) delivered a stream of pars and bogies during the
first nine and maintained this form on the way home (although he nearly
stumbled on the last hole) to beat the next best and equal contenders The Cardinal (99,25,74) and Stavros the Greek (101,27,74) by a
very convincing six strokes. And this under
the card performance was after an absence from golf for quite some
months. “You don’t need to play golf to
improve…” started out Markus
before being drowned out by the adoring gallery clambering for an autograph. Hail Octavius: This meant
the presentations back at the car park were a huge celebration of Markus Octavius sensational
performance. In fact the tour was in awe as the results were read out and it
became clear what he had achieved. “I’d
like to thank God, my family and the president for coming to my aid today”
started out a humble yet impressive Octavius
as the media jockeyed for position to hear the champions acceptance speech (see
2014 Triggered Major 1
Champions speech and TM 1 Presentations). The Club committee congratulates Markus Octavius on his first win of 2014 and indeed all winners
on the day. The committee notes that while Stavros still leads the club championship in 2014, this is only
because Markus has submitted a
single card year to date. Octavius
remains a strong contender for this year’s championship as do a number of
members which implies a need for all members to get out for the next major
event – The ‘Blessed are the Big Nose’
cup on Good Friday. See you there. |
