Event Report: ‘Freddie fires off a SHIT’ Saturday 13th December 2013: Again the 5,566 metre 73 ACR Kingston Links course was in
perfect condition and again the weather was ideal for the annual running of
the Shanksy Invitational Tournament (SHiT). This was within the context of some doubt as to
whether this year’s event would be on because event sponsor Don Johnson had injured his knee and
hadn’t played golf for six months. “Look
I was confident the surgery would be successful, so much so that I have been
bashing the other knee with a hammer so they can fix that one up for free on Medicare
too” explained a recently converted to the socialist safety net Don Johnson prior to tee off. Classy field: As was expected, this year’s event attracted a classy field
with two very competitive groups stepping up to the first tee. Logically, the
first group was headed by The Don
himself and included Curtis, last
year’s champion Rubber Man and Stavros the Greek. The second group
was equally classy and included Pup,
The Bloke, The Cardinal and Freddie
Five Iron. Hence, there was a strong feeling across the field that history
was in the making (see SHiT 2014 player groups). Impressive display
on-course: Well it started in earnest on
the first tee and continued for the next four of hours, in short, a sublime
exhibition of sensational golf. Perfect examples included Pup’s magnificent nearest the pin on
the 3rd, The Bloke’s awe
inspiring nearest the pin on the 7th, Curtis’s unbelievable nearest the pin on the 11th and Rubber Man’s masterful nearest the pin on the last. And
all this was complimented by event sponsor Don Johnson’s fantastic longest drive on the 9th hole
and then his stupendous longest drive on the 14th hole. As anyone would
imagine the adoring gallery was extremely impressed (see on course at the SHiT
2014 and a selection of
player shots). No SHIT
on Freddie: And history was made because the story of the day was Freddie Five Iron (106,36,70) who blew away the rest of the field
beating Rubber Man (95,21,74) by
four strokes and equal third getters The
Bloke (94,19,75) and Curtis
(90,15,75) by five strokes to take out his first ever nnomads
Golf Club championship event. “I don’t
want to be known as a 36 handicapper anymore and this win has guaranteed that
….” began Freddie as Don Johnson handed Freddie the SHIT trophy for 2014. But
of course the presentations celebrated all winners on the day albeit
difficult to ignore the fact that Freddie
Five Iron had won using two five irons and a putter! (see

2014 winners speech,). Closer at the top of
the championship leader board: The Club committee
congratulates Freddie Five Iron on his
first nnomads golf club major event championship and
of course all winners on the day. The Committee also points out that after a
fabulous 2nd place getting performance, Rubber Man has inched that much closer to club championship
leader, Nurse Min meaning that this
year’s nnomnads Golf Club championship will be
decided at the final major event for the year being – The Santa Decanter to
be run on Sunday the 27th of December 2014, a now not to be missed
event!! |
