Event Report:

‘Pup has another VOMIT

June 10th 2013: Well, The Cardinal did it again when setting up the annual running of the Victorian Open Masters Invitational Tournament at Yarrambat Park early in June. The weather proved to be magnificent and the course in as good condition as it has ever been. This set the scene for one of the most memorable events of the year.

Individual and teams event: As usual, the competition included both an Individual (The VOMIT) and Teams event (The nnomads GONADS Teams Cup) creating a potentially viscous competition at both individual and team level. “It was a bit confusing really. I was hoping Pup would miss a few puts at the individual level but was cheering him on at the team level. I felt a bit schizoid to be honest” admitted The Bloke after the game.

Despite the odd split personality, the line-up of competitors was impressive. For example, the Rancid Religious Relics team contained The Cardinal, Markus Octavious and the last event winner Rubber Man. They were closely followed by The Fritzn-Shagin Minsters team made up of Freddie Five Iron, Nurse Min and championship leader Don Johnson. The final team to step up to the tee were last year’s team’s event winners The Greek Bloke-Dogs, again made up of current club champion Stavros the Greek, last year’s individual VOMIT winner Pup and The Bloke (see VOMIT player groups 2013).

Another Yarrambat sort of day: Ah that phrase just rolls off the lips – another Yarrambat sort of day. And that is what it was despite having to argue with course management who originally wanted to add an external player to the last group. “Yeah well between The Cardinal and Stavros they certainly put-paid to that” observed Nurse Min as the management changed their minds and announced an exclusive tee off for each nnomads GC group over the PA. And that was fortunate, because the on-course activity was frenetic as the tour took full advantage of the favourable conditions (see on course at the VOMIT 2013).

Pup has another VOMIT: So it all began with the Cardinal going into story telling mode slowly building up to the entrance of one for our most popular interstate members who is a frequent visitor to nnomads GC events these days. Don’t know who I am talking about? Well you will have to watch this to find out (see entrance and exit of little Nick).

Then the proceedings continued with the Cardinal working through the leader board starting with the backmarkers and working up to the winner. It was a slow, arduous but hilarious process that eventually pointed out that ‘Pup’ (95,22,73) had taken out back to back VOMIT championships, beating The Bloke (96,20,76) by three strokes with championship leader Don Johnson (98,21,77) a further stroke behind him in third place. And once again, the winner was expected to consume a cupful of the Cardinal’s vomit, something that all players aspired to – NOT! “This is really an event you want to win..” stated this year’s champion Pup as he almost refiled the cup after his first sip (see full version of the Cardinal and full leader board count back and presentation or the short version of the presentation). The fact that Don Johnson took out the Longest Drive, The Bloke took out a NTP and The Cardinal took out the other NTP was almost lost in the celebrations, or should that be the confusion?

Bloke-Dogs get GONADS: And of course the presentations continued as the nnomads GONADS Teams Cup was presented to the Greek-Bloke Dogs (net 227 strokes) for the second year in a row, after quite convincingly displacing the Fritzn-Shagn Ministers (net 239) and the Rancid Religious Relics (net 243). And once again the team’s presentations went on and on and on and on (see long and full teams presentation version or the shorter abridged teams presentation). This meant that the presentation photos were extensive or at least there were more than usual (see VOMIT 2013 presentations).

The Club committee congratulates Pup on his back to back VOMIT win and the Greek Bloke-Dogs back to back nnomads GONADs Teams Cup win, and of course all other prize getters on the day. The Committee again extends particular thanks to The Cardinal for putting on another brilliant and memorable event, albeit with the usual visual bits you might want to forget.
