Harry (Teflon) 26th January 2012 Growling Frog GC |
Event Report: ‘Teflon Runs AMOK on Australia Day January 26th
2012: There was an excellent turnout for the
annual running of the Australia Masters Open Kup on
Australia Day. As usual, the Growling Frog golf course had been prepared
perfectly by the ground staff and the weather proved kind (although the wind
came into play at various times during the day). Hence, the scene was set for
another day of fearsome competition. As usual, the AMOK attracted a high quality field of
competitors as was exampled by the first group off the tee - current club
champion The Bloke, immediate past
Club Champion Pup, 2009 club
champion Slugger and aspiring club
champion Shags. They were followed
by an equally impressive second group consisting of Teflon, The Hanging Judge,
Freddie Five Iron and Markus Octavious. And not to be outdone, the final group was
also as equally impressive including Brendoon, Nurse Min,
Timmo and Bull.
It was clear there was potential for a low scoring day (see AMOK player groups 2012). Freddie gets
a birdie: As it turned out that wasn’t
the case although some fine golf was certainly played. For example, Freddie Five Iron played the shot of
the day resulting in a birdie on the 9th. He was in the right hand
side bunker for two shots. He then proceeded to hit out of the bunker
straight into the hole for three shots and a birdie. And yes, of course Freddie used his five iron to hit out of the bunker, a masterful stroke if I
ever saw one. That put him an excellent mood for the second nine, as
illustrated by his ongoing long animated conversations with the refreshment
cart lady (but that’s another story). Suffice to say, the on-course
conditions were great and the competitors lapped up the course (see on course at the AMOK 2012. Note:
There aren’t any photos of Group 3 because they were so far behind play. Why
was that guys? I never did find out). Teflon Runs AMOK: As I was
saying, scores at the end of the day were not all that low; in fact they were
quite high because only one competitor ended under the card on net
score. It should be said that club champion The Bloke played to the ACR (73) giving him outright second
place, a pretty good performance (95,22,73). And
indeed Markus Octavious was only one stroke behind
him in outright third place, another pretty good performance (108,34,74). But the performance of the day came from Teflon who clearly ran AMOK putting in
a five under the ACR performance and winning by five strokes (99,31,68). Full Clubhouse for Presentations: As you would expect, the
presentations were sensational with a long list of prize winners. The Hanging Judge got an NTP, as did Slugger, as did Timmo, as did The Bloke. Telfon
won a Longest Drive as did Pup. And
of course Freddie got a ball for
his shot of the day. Then of course there was The Bloke getting balls for 2nd, a ball for Octavious for
third, and multiple balls and the trophy for AMOK 1012 champion Teflon (see AMOK 2012 presentations). Thanks from Bloke: Consistent
with most years, the presentations were all the more exciting because new
club champion The Bloke was also
presented with his nnomads Golf Club championship
trophy for 2011, once again making it a glamorous affair. The Bloke’s
acceptance speech was truly motivational and kept the gallery’s attention
throughout. Note: It is extremely difficult to keep the attention of a nnomad for any length of time. Hence, The Bloke did a
magnificent job keeping the full attention of everybody for the full
length of his speech (see presentation speech from
2011 club champion). The Club committee congratulates Teflon on his convincing win
in the first major of 2012 and indeed all winners on the day. The committee
reminds members that every game of golf
adds a day to your life. So make sure you extend your life by booking for
the next nnomads Golf Club major event, the ‘Blessed are the Big Nose’ Cup to be
played on Good Friday. See you there. |
