The
Hanging Judge 20th November 2010 Yarrambat |
Event Report: ‘Jury is not out on Judge’s VOMIT’ Saturday 20th
November 2010: Everybody knew this was an exceptional opportunity to
compete in a nnomads Golf Club major without the
presence of the year-to-date championship leader ‘Pup’. And you could tell by
the excitement in the air as a select group of competitors arrived at
Yarrambat Park to contest the Victorian Open Masters Invitational Torment for
2010. In fact, Teflon and the Judge arrived an hour early with plans to hit
the driving range only to find it was booked out by a group of juniors. “We either play kneeling down or try the
putting green” suggested a frustrated Jack wondering what he was going to
do for an hour. But the time when quickly and before you know it the first
group was walking onto the tee including ‘The Bloke’, last year’s winner
‘Teflon’, ‘Afheed’ and ‘Freddie was Five Iron , now Three Iron’...... “Freddie
Three Iron just doesn’t have that same ring to it” observed Min earlier
as the player list was read out (Note: Freddie has lost his five iron which
had a dramatic and limiting impact on his club choice). They were followed by
the second group onto the tee led by event sponsor ‘The Cardinal, The Hanging
Judge, Nurse Min and professional bridesmaid Shags. It was clear to the
gallery this was a quality field likely to generate a sensational competition
(see VOMIT player groups 2010). Now it should be said that Yarrambat was in superb condition
after the recent rain. So, combined with a clear warm day, it was a picture
perfect kind of scene for most of the afternoon (see on course at the VOMIT 2010).
There were a number of contenders as the game went on including Steph who
looked good most of the way, Emilio who looked great until the last couple of
holes, Jack who really had his short game going and Shanksy
who was in the thick of it all the way. But one by one they failed to do that
exceptional thing that you just have to do to win a hard fought competition
like this one. Not that anyone actually knew this until they were back in the
car park after the game where event sponsor Fango
finally announced that Jack had taken out the VOMIT title for 2010 with 89
strokes off the stick and a net 69 strokes, a full three strokes under the
card. The crowd erupted as Jack’s brilliant performance was revealed and the
perpetual trophy was presented to a clearly worthy winner. “Pleasure to wip
your Arses” sniggered Jack to the rest of the
field but noticeably modified his tone for the media after the presentation.
“Happy to have a VOMIT with you all”
he smiled into the camera (see interview
with 2010 VOMIT winner). This was not to underplay the performance of second place
getter and even with the card Emileo (105,33,72) who also won the only NTP on the day. Nor the
equal third performances of Steph (94,20,74) and Shanksy (93,19,74). Or in fact Harry who took out the longest
drive on the 15th. But it was hard to go past The Judge’s
commanding performance and everyone conceded that the best man had won on the
day, albeit after a long and drawn out presentation that eventually got to
the 2010 winner (see VOMIT
presentations 2010 including a full video of all presentations and a
short version for those who couldn’t be bothered sitting through all those
presentations). The Club committee congratulates Jack on his sensational
performance and all other winners on the day. Special thanks event sponsor ‘The Cardinal.’ for putting on another
great event. The committee also points the obvious, that the club
championship leader board did change after this event, again showing you
can’t miss out on these competitions if you want to be a championship
contender (eh Pup, Mild Colonial Boy, The Dream, Bull, Slugger and others
outside the top 10) So book early for
the next one. |
