‘The Captain Is the
Man To Beat”
10th
November 2008: Most
readers won’t remember that the nnomads Golf Club
champion for 2008 will be that player with the lowest average net score taken over a minimum of three Official nnomad Golf Club
events in 2008. If more than three events are entered the lowest three
net scores are used. Entrants must attend a minimum of three Official nnomads Golf
Club competitions, they must be active
members of the nnomads Golf Club, and must attend and pay the attendance fee in
the Saturday competitions when possible. If this is not possible (for example
for regional or interstate competitors), they are required to regularly submit
scores for handicapping purposes.
The Captain Meets the Criteria: And
as many of you might suspect from the photo, the Captain, Ricko
meets that criteria. He has four score cards from nnomads
Golf Club officially sanctioned events and has turned up on at least one
Saturday in 2008 for handicapping purposes. “And paid the fees” added Ricko after reading
the previous paragraph. “You are joking
aren’t you? He only played because it fitted in with the football”
suggested Min who was previously leading the championship. “You have got to admit he’s produced some outstanding performances in
2008” conceded 2007 club champion Emile after looking at the 2008 year to
date event results (see year to date results in the table below). “Shame there are
not more Callaway events on the club calendar” smirked Brendan still
smarting from his wins in the Melbourne Cup Cup and Tulum Sands Callaway Classic.
Unless
There is Divine Intervention: Not to ignore Brendan, but
Emile was right. As of the 4th of November 2008, Ricko
has an average net score of 68.7 strokes across his three lowest nnomads Golf Club sanctioned events in 2008. This is a full
5.6 strokes ahead of the next group of players
being Jack, Tom and Brendan all on an average of 74.3 strokes across their
three nnomads Golf Club sanctioned events. The rest
of the twenty five contenders or should that be pretenders, are strokes behind.
Thus, for those that haven’t worked it out, this means
that it is almost impossible for Ricko not to become
the nnomads Golf Club Champion for 2008. “Can’t we rig the results or lie a lot”
questioned past club champion Tom who fancied his chances in a play-off if Ricko wasn’t already there. “There might be a legal problem with an out of stater laying claim to
the title. I’m interested in the meaning of the word ‘regularly’” suggested
Jack who could sniff some legal fees in the air and also fancied his chances in
a play-off. “We could get Shanksy to make a few visits before Christmas. That way we
would have a few more sanctioned
events before the end of the year” suggested
professional bridesmaid Mark V looking for a way to displace his bridesmaid
mantle and thinking a couple of Shanksy Invitational
Tournaments (SHITs) would go down well in the next
six weeks. But it might be all in vain because at this point in time there are
no more official nnomads Golf Club events planned for
2008 and unless there is some divine intervention; Ricko
will be the 2008 nnomads Golf Club champion.
There
is Still Time: “If
someone pays for my airfares I’ll come as many times as you like before
Christmas” offered Shanksy generously by
satellite phone from the US after reading Mark V’s suggestion. And while there
were no immediate takers, the principle is right. We need some more nnomads Golf Club sanctioned events before the end of
December. “It can’t be all over in the
middle of November can it? Someone has got to organise more events” pleaded
Brendan who also fancied his chances in a play-off that will never happen. So
there you have it readers. The challenge is out to everybody and anybody to
organise more golf events before the 30th of December. “Otherwise we will have to watch the
perpetual club championship trophy cross the border like the Green Jacket has”
warned Steph as the last committee meeting was closed
and committee members rushed for the bar.
