2007 nnomads Club Champion - Afheed

‘Emile is the Real Deal!

December 31st 2007: Members and associates, Emile has won the nnomads Club Championship for 2007.

And as most of you won’t remember, the nnomads Golf Club champion for 2007 is that player with the lowest average net score at the end of the year across three nnomads Golf Club championship sanctioned events. During 2007 there were five nnomads Golf Club championship sanctioned events including ‘The Anzac Day Medal’ run in April , ‘The Participial Isabel Slape Trophy’ (PIS) run in July, ‘The Balnarring Invitational Tournament’ (BIT) run in October, ‘The Melbourne Cup Cup (MCC) run in November and the ‘Shanksy Invitational Tournament’ (SHIT) which is ran whenever Shanksy is in Australia, which can be anytime of year, including multiple times per year, but was in November this year because Shanksy turned up then.

Multiple Leaders in 2007: As members may or may not remember, Tom (last year’s club champion), led the field early in the year after winning the Anzac Day medal in April. Then Harry burst onto the scene with his fabulous win at the PIS in South Australia in early July. But it wasn’t good enough to displace Tom who maintained his lead right up until the last quarter of the year. Then, Emile then burst onto the scene by winning the BIT in October. He went onto come third on handicap in the MCC in November and then sealed the 2007 championship by being runner up to Steve in the SHIT in mid-November.

At the end of all that, Emile had an average net score of 72 strokes, a full two strokes lower than Brendan (average net score 74) and a further two strokes in front of Steve (average net score 75.7) see Detailed Results). “I think the practice net in the back yard has been the difference although the neighbour isn’t all that happy when I miss the net” explained Emile as Tom presented him with the perpetual nnomads Golf Club champion trophy for 2007. Fortunately the wind was howling and rain was pelting during the nnomads Golf Club champion presentations which are traditionally held in a golf club car park after some convenient game. It was fortunate because you couldn’t actually hear what Tom said during the presentations. “Look I just smiled and nodded a lot. I couldn’t hear a thing in that wind” smiled Steph who was more interested in getting out of the weather than listening anyway. “I thought Tom did an excellent job. I’m sure he said something appropriate” chipped in Harry who also hadn’t heard a thing (see presentation video requiring media player – warning, large file and poor sound). The committee takes this opportunity to congratulate Emile on a fantastic and deserved win in 2007.

Brendan impressive as usual: Once again, Brendan was a close second, this year two strokes behind Emile. During the year he came second in the Anzac Day Medal and won the Melbourne Cup Cup. However, his absence from the PIS and the SHIT combined with an average performance in the BIT took its toll. “I know it was foolish to miss so many championship events. The more events you contest, the greater your chances, assuming you play well” he lamented after the presentations. But of course Brendan played more games of golf than another person in 2007, as usual. And Brendan won more golf balls than any other player in 2007, as usual. “And so I should win a ball or too. I contribute more funds than anyone else as well” smarted Brendan when reminded of the number of balls he won in 2007 (see bladder results 2007). The Committee congratulates Brendan on his great performance in 2007.

And of course there were some other notable performances during 2007 including Steve’s win at the SHIT and Harry’s win at the PIS but we don’t have time to talk about these in this article.

So there you have it. Emile now joins an elite group of nnomads Golf Club champions, the ultimate achievement for any nnomads Golf Club member (unless you don’t like that sort of thing). The Committee sincerely congratulates Emile on this truly great achievement.
