Bandit from the Bush’ is
Club Champion for 2005 January 2006: Well members
and others, it is official. Tim has won the club championship for 2005. His
name will be added to the nnomads Golf Club
Champion perpetual trophy for 2005 and members will bow to him when in his presence
for the next 12 months (well maybe not). New Championship Format Worked Well: As most members and readers will not be aware, the
basis on which the Club Championship is calculated changed mid way though 2005 (Note:
Voted in by a quorum at last years AGM). Previously ‘The Ladder’ was the basis of
the club championship but was seen to have a number of unpopular features and
flaws. The new system is now based on
averaging player scores over the best Mr Consistency: Well Tim
played in three of the four sanctioned events. His highest gross score across these events
was 104 strokes at a difficult to play Eagle Ridge during the BIT (which
incidentally he won). He then followed up with gross scores of 102 strokes at
both the MCC and the ShIT (in which he came
second). With a handicap of 30, this gave Tim 1 x net score of 74 and 2 x net
scores of 72 to give him an average net score of 72.7 strokes, an excellent
performance and one no Solid Competition From Brendan: It is probably no surprise that Brendan came in second for the
year. Across the four sanctioned
events he gained gross scores of 93 in the MOTT, 87 in the MCC, 96 in the BIT
and 85 in the ShIT.
He gained net scores of 77, 81,
71 and 71 strokes respectively to gain an average of 73.1 strokes, a mere 0.4
strokes behind the Club Champion Tim.
In addition Brendan ended on top of the ‘Ladder’ for 2005 with 116.5
points and a healthy 33 + points above the next group of players. He put in around 45 x 18 hole cards for the
52 week year, played in 39 x paid up competition games, recorded 16 x first
places, 1 x second place and 11 x NTPs
giving him a strike rate of 72%. While the ‘Ladder’ in its present
form won’t exist in 2006 and beyond, Brendan’s performance in 2005 is
certainly notable and the Club Committee congratulates him on his
achievements. “I knew Tim had won it after his performance at the SHIT. He has a
very good looking swing” commented Brendan when the official results were
announced. Steph & Tom Slug It Out for 3rd: Now it would be of no surprise to anyone to see Steph (Gross
/ Net scores of 99 / 77 MOTT, 117 / 96 BIT, 89 / 68 MCC, 103 / 82 ShIT and an average of 75.7 strokes) up there in the top
few players for the year but some might be somewhat surprised (but maybe not)
that ‘I never ever win a ball’ – Tom (Gross / Net scores of 117 / 90 MOTT,
113 / 86 BIT, 94 / 68 MCC and 99 / 73 ShIT and an
of average 75.6 strokes) came in third, beating Steph by only 0.1 of a
stroke. “It was the 68 in the Melbourne Cup Cup and
the 73 in the ShIT that got me there. Lucky it
wasn’t based on the Ladder” smiled Tom when notified of the results. And he was right as Steph rated very well
on the ‘Ladder‘ during 2005 coming in at third spot
overall. Steph put in around 25 x 18 hole cards for the 52 week year, played
in 25 x paid up competition games, recorded 9 x first places, 2 x second
place and 4 x NTPs giving him a strike
rate of 60% (one of the best strike rates for the year). “But
you had to do it during the events and that 117 at the BIT really killed me”
commented Steph when interviewed by the media. The Club Committee congratulates both Tom
and Steph on their excellent performances during 2005. Other Notable Performances During 2005: It would be remiss not
mention the performances of Ricko and Pete. Ricko started the year by winning the Monarch of The Tullum
at Cape Shank in April and then followed up mid year
with a win at the PIS in South
Australia (not a sanctioned event in 2005 but will be a sanctioned event in
2006 and beyond). Thus mid year Ricko
was a real contender for the championship and could have done well if he had
played well in the last couple of events.
Unfortunately ‘The Captain’s’ performance dropped off towards the end
of the year due to an acute case of ‘lack
of attendance’. “But it was seen as
a great performance and achievement in 2005” reinforced Gordon when
reminiscing. “Yeah he won ‘the Monarch’s Glove’ the ‘the Nick Ahern Sun
Visor’ and the ‘PIS Green Jacket’ in the same 2005 year. No one has done that in the entire history
of the nnomads Golf Club” added Harry before
anyone asked. “And who could forget the
‘So Gungagalunga boys.’ video from the PIS. I just
love that Captain’s laugh” laughed Tom (See very poor video of Ricko Celebrating His PIS Win to experience the
relevant Ricko laugh). “Look
you know the nnomads Club Championship is important
to me. But the Cray season opened, the Snapper and Whiting were running, it was a veritable ‘fishing frenzy’ for the taking. I
just had to move back to South Australia so I was closer to the action”
explained Ricko by SMS from the beach just north of
his shack on the York Peninsular (where he has to go to get mobile phone
coverage). The Committee congratulates Ricko on his
performance in 2005. Ultimate ‘Off the Stick’ Performance: Now the best looking card in any sanctioned event in 2005
came from Pete who put in a gross score of 80 strokes in the Melbourne Cup Cup. Pete shot 10
pars, 6 bogies and 2 double bogies giving him a Callaway handicap of ‘8’ and
a net score of 72. “Now that was a
truly great performance. It was a privilege to watch” said Brendan just
after the round. “That’s why I wanted to keep
the card. It might be a week or two before I can repeat that performance”
Pete mumbled to a sports reporter after the event. The Club Committee congratulates Pete on
this truly excellent performance during 2005.
Detailed Results: The Detailed Results
of the 2005 Club Championship are available for those that like to look at
such detail. It includes the outcomes from each sanctioned event, a very nice
photo of Tim and a summary of the final average scores for each player in the
championship. “Shortly we will be publishing
‘Handicap Update’ a summary of what has happened to member handicaps during
2005. Now that makes for some
interesting reading” announced Harry when asked about upcoming
publications. Gala Presentations to Be Announced at Any Minute: At the time this article went to web there had been no
announcement from the nnomads Golf Club Committee
about the date of the ‘Galah
Presentations’ at which the perpetual nnomads
Golf Club Championship trophy will be presented to our 'nnomad
of the Year'; Tim: along with presentations of other appropriate awards and
prizes. “Look I am sure it's just a
minor fuck up. They will be well into the planning stage for 2006 and they
probably haven't thought of that”, commented our highly paid Club
appointed public relations consultancy.
A press statement released by the highly paid 'professionals'
representing the Club stated that: ‘The
2006 competition will involve a number of sanctioned events and the Club
looks forward to the continued fantastic member participation illustrated in
the past year’. |
