Stavros Hits the Lead While Don Johnson Zooms Up the Ladder

August 2004: As of the 2nd
of August, the nnomads 2004 competition league
ladder had 39 players with one or more competition points, an excellent
increase over last year. “And it’s
reflected in the balance sheet.” commented the Club Treasurer at the last
committee meeting. (See updated Kitty report). Bombers Distract Cardinal It is football
season in Melbourne and The Cardinal (early ladder leader in 2004) has
attended every Melbourne based Essendon game that was played. Consequently, Stavros
the Greek (35 points / strike rate of 17% and using the sheer quantity of
cards method/tortoise) has been able Bonus Points System for Ex-
Pats a Bone of Contention Well, the big
controversy for the quarter was Don Johnson (shown right with Stavros), taking
third spot on the ladder (24 points / strike rate of 0%). Now for those who
don’t know Don, he lives in California at present. This makes him eligible
for an Overseas Bonus Point every
time he submits a card from overseas (have to both play the game and submit
the scores from overseas in the correct format). So how does
this work? Well, every time any person submits a golf score card to the nnomads Golf Club (normally via web site) they get half a
point (0.5 points) per 9 holes they play. Thus, a player gets 1 point for
each 18-hole card they submit (whether in a nnomads
Golf Club competition / event or not). This
applies to everyone so submit those cards members! So, what’s the
controversy you might say? Well Don gets an additional point per 18 holes (2
points per 18 holes). “He is playing
once per week. At the rate he is going up the ladder at present he will be so
far ahead on the 30th of December it won’t matter” mumbled The
Cardinal (last years winner and holder of the 2003
trophy). “Of course, a member can only
win the nnomads Golf Club Perpetual Trophy if they
are there in person to receive it.” Stavros reminded the committee at the
last meeting. Midfield Contenders GMAC (19.5 points
/ strike rate 25%) and The Bloke (19 points / strike rate of 29%) both are in
good positions with their strike rates.
“If they can maintain their performances during the spring session, they both
have a solid chance.” commented Nurse Min as he passed out invitations to
the BIT 2004 (2nd October at Eagle Ridge – See Stavros or Nurse Min).
‘T’ Out on Her Own Turbo (17
points / strike rate of 43%) has a clear lead on the woman’s board and is
also in a great position overall. If she is able to maintain her strike rate
and frequency in the second half of the year, she should be a shoe in for the
woman’s title. Come on you women out
there. Give her some competition! Committee Pleased with Progress At the last
committee meeting the reports were all positive (except the interstate
competition results from Port Fairy where the South Australians scooped the
pool – “But we don’t talk about that.”).
“Player numbers are up and attendances at club events is
tracking nicely.” pronounced Captain Double
Agent The Captain. “And the finances are tracking well too” added GMAC. “Well, it looks as though 2004 could be
the best year ever.” repeated The Very Reverend Arch Deacon Wing
Commander, "Iron Guts Crossinski" (Ret.) “So long as we can maintain the momentum
